Nepalese architecture is a unique strain of art and practicality. Situated in between the trade routes between the Southern Indian Nations and the Northern Tibetan and Chinese empires, Nepalese architecture reflects influences from both these cultural strongholds.
Pagoda is from indian stupa, not nepalese one ~ china exist far longer than nepal.
You're right that Nepal did not exist as a nation, but it has always been part of the ancient Indian civilization. For example, the Buddha himself was born in the region corresponding to modern-day Nepal.
The pagoda did originate from the Indian stupa, but the East Asian styles look quite distinct from the original Indian ones. I read that the new style began in Nepal and was introduced to China by a Nepali architect Araniko/Balabahu in the 13th century. However, it seems the newer style of pagodas have existed in China since the 10th century, so maybe the East Asian style was native to China after all?
