Nothing much else to do at the moment, so I thought I could follow Kresna's example and do a similar thread. Despite our clashing on certain issues, I'm sure we still have something fond to say about our neighbour.
  • Indonesia sinetrons are really good. I'm guilty of preferring them over Malaysian ones. : (
  • Beautiful women and handsome men.
  • I love Indonesian instant noodles! Mie Sedap is my favourite. Indomie is really good too.
  • The diverse culture of Indonesia is very interesting. I am especially intrigued by Indonesian traditional aesthetics.
  • I love the way Indonesians talk.

And of course, I must mention traditional Indonesian music. I love hearing the gamelan - what's more, I used to be a member of the Gamelan Ensemble in my secondary school years. I played the Saron Barung. icon_wink.gif

I miss the sounds of my saron barung. neartears.gif

p.s. dreamhunter, don't you dare flirt in my thread... -_-

Something nice about Indonesia? Gee! Would you allow just a teeny weeny little room for bad-mouthing Indonesia dear Crystal?? Hehehe!! Just kidding!!

One of the reasons I like Indonesia is that I feel I belong to the same "rumpun" (stock) with them.....not the "rumpun Melayu" (Malay stock), but "rumpun Muslim" (Muslim stock). Sorry to invoke religion here, I know some people don't like it, but I'm being honest!

Indonesians are my fellow brothers and sisters in Islam. God forbids..but if another tsunami hits them, I'd like to be one of the first Malaysians to be in line to offer them help!!! And God forbids too...but if we too were hit by a tsunami, I hope Indonesians would be among the first to rush to our aid with all the rasa sayang feeling!! Hahaha!!! As a Malaysian, I think we need to change our typical views of Indonesia such as, "Indonesia being backward", "Malaysia's economically superior" etc. [insert here]. The bad image of Indonesian workers in Malaysia doesn't represent Indonesia as a whole for Indonesia is such a huge country. I can only hope with the increase of Malaysian tourists to Indonesia it will open their eyes to what Indonesia has to offer, including things that cannot be found in our country & some good things that we can learn from them.

We claim to be close brothers but we know so little about each other. During the early days of the net war between Indonesians and Malaysians following the Rasa Sayange case, I noticed many Indonesians seem to have been wrongly informed that Malays of Malaysia is "homogenously Malay", unaware of the fact there is a sizable number of people of other ethnicities eg. Javanese, Bugis, Minang Banjar, Boyan etc. too in Malaysia. Therefore, they couldn't understand why the song and other cultural pieces that are not Malay (as in Indonesia) could even exist in Malaysia. This leads to many other "maling" claims by the Indonesians icon_neutral.gif. It couldn't be helped that these people are considered Malay in the Malaysian constitution. So there you have it, misunderstanding and misinformation.

And Malaysians need to learn to stop calling Indonesians indo*. I've stopped using that term the moment I discovered it is very offensive by Indonesians some years back. This has run so deep into our society that even press uses it.

Their automotive scene better than us. There are a lot nice moded car in Malaysian than there, but we must admit their event, autoshow or what so ever are much more better than us. How they organize it much more organized than our people which most of our organizer just want to suck our money dry, no matter u are the guest or u are the participants.

They more united than us. In oversea, they unite with their people, helping is other etc. Not like us when me meet our malaysian mate there, we just pretend they are from different country, both side try to show they are better etc. even though both are malaysian.

Gee! I've hurt your feelings dear brother, haven't I?? Of course, you are my brother too Bhaskara despite all the past brickbats (and future ones!) between us!! Hahaha!!

Look back at my post there. I said "Indonesians are my brothers and sisters in Islam". I did not say "Indonesian Muslims are my brothers and sisters in Islam", did I? I invoke Islam in relation to Indonesia based on the fact that Indonesia is a Muslim-majority country, a label that it is now increasingly famous for, always being tagged as "the world' most populous Muslim country"..

So, all Indonesian Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, Jains, Jews, Pagans, Ahmadiyahs (yes, they too, with all the tribulations they're facing in their Indonesian homeland!) are my fellow brothers and sisters too, if not in Islam, then in some other concepts of brotherhood. I do have non-Muslim Indonesian friends, you know!!

There are a thousand reasons for me to feel brotherly with a people, Islam doesn't have to be the only reason. With Filipinos, for instance, I have brotherly feeling for them through the "rumpun Melayu" concept, though I know some people just can't stand my nerves for forever peddling this "rumpum Melayu" stuff!! Hahaha!!

Your reason of why you can claim or use customs and traditions from Indonesia is because you have people from these ethnicities in Malaysia? Then in that case, why wouldn't Malaysia claim Kimono as theirs since Malaysia has a great Japanese population? Although Java has thousands of people from Ambon, they would never advertise tourism to Java with Rasa Sayange, because it belongs to the Ambonese people. During the early days of the net war between Indonesians and Malaysians following the Rasa Sayange case, I noticed many Malaysians seem to have been wrongly informed by their government that Rasa Sayange was their folksong (even if most Ambonese songs have similar characteristics, some even with identical phrases and sentences as in Rasa Sayange).

It also seems like many Malaysians do not understand that copyrights mean "I found this first, it's mine and anyone who wants to use it needs my permission or has to pay me." How will the 1 million Javanese (most of whom are still Indonesian citizens too) in Malaysia respond to the 80 million Javanese in Indonesia?

Thank you for the not-so-nice thread. I just would like to clear one thing up. icon_neutral.gif

Copyright? Last time I checked there was no patent for Rasa Sayanghe at the patent office. Maybe you guys shouldve done that if you wannna claim it as yours.

Are you gonna claim other stuff like silat, sepak raga/takraw, beras, nasi etc. etc. etc. as Indonesian as well?

Dude. Business is business. Guys market their stuff in anyway that sells. If you're too slow to sell whatever you feel is yours, we can't help you.

Anyway we're not selling Rasa Sayanghe. We're only using Rasa Sayanghe to sell Malaysia. Is that so bad?

Anyway, it's helped make Rasa Sayanghe famous all over the world. If you took that positively, you'd have thanked us for that, instead of lambasting us for the good work we've done.

BTW, this thread was supposed to be a "Why I love Indonesia" thread. But you're turning it into a "Why I don't love Malaysia" thread. So let's go back to the original intention. biggthumpup.gif

See, that's exactly the mentality you people have. Have you ever heard us Indonesians claim Sepak Raga as ours? No. And how about stuff like Ais Kacang or Teh Tarik? No. Because we know that is not ours, and even if we find them abundantly in our country, we don't have the intention to claim it as ours. Why? Because we actually respect the fact that those stuff came from another country.

I have Minang blood in me, anak. I claim part of the Minang culture as my own as it was the culture of my grandparents which seems to be dying with my dad and uncles/aunties. During the typical Negeri Sembilan wedding, it is very likely that the caklempung will be played, and the dindin ba dindin dance performed. I absorbed these subcounsciously and will feel quite saddened if an Indonesian would deny me my heritage. I've never been to Padang or Bukittinggi, yet have an affinity for people there cos I know there are (very) distant relatives living there still. I would argue that the Negri Sembilan folks and Minangkau people from Sumatera have a shared history and culture which transcends national boundaries and (relatively) recent historical divergence.

cult heritage can be shared as long as the origin are credited.
but
any patent of cultural heritage are illegal.
PerisaiLangkasuka
That was Bhass lecturing? Funny it didnt feel like one at all. Unless he likes lecturing to himself.

Naaaah. Just made my tummy start dancing in anticipation of ais kacang for buka puasa.

Now does that show the mentality you guys have? I really hope it doesnt. You see, we dont give 2 hoots if you wanna sell ais kacang or teh tarik, or even Laksa Penang, to some German tourist in Jakarta as an Indonesian delicacy.

If it earns some enterprising geezer some dough he can use for his kids, we'd say, "Well done dude, you done great. Keep up the good work." He can even call it Laksa Yogya for all it's worth. Why should we let ourselves feel pain over some trivia like that?

Anyone wants a Malaysian boyfriend? icon_redface.gif

Indonesia - anchor of ASEAN. Yes Singapore might be the richest city-state. Yes Malaysia and Thailand are more successful economically. But Indonesia is the giant behemoth that is the backbone of ASEAN. Politically it remains the single most important player in the ASEAN bloc.

I'm not much a fan of Indo's movies, can't remember any Indonesian movies that I have watched except those horror sundel bolong flicks I used to watch when I was a kid lol..and yeah, AADC..the first time I tried to watch AADC I got so lost, couldn't understand a word at all coz the vcd came with no subtitle lol..

Music wise, I used to like Dewa. For some reason the interest was lost when I start digging Radiohead & Sigur Ros music lol.

Simply put, what's good about Indonesia, in extension, Indonesians:

1) Without 'em Indonesian immigrants, most Malaysians will be living on the streets or working under trees. 95% of residential homes & high towered skycrapers of comfy office spaces are built by 'em. Lets face it, Malaysia developed on the fast track lane because their sweat & blood. That is something to ponder on.

2) Indo Pop! It simply rocked!

3) Indo Mie. Then again, I always prefer Maggi Mee.

4) Inul Daratista .... nuff said.

5) Inul .... uh .... Indo actresses & pop singers. They've good vocals & can actually act!

6) Inul .... uh .... what the hell, its goyang gebor Inul dong!
