RP Divers Overweight!!
BEIJING — The man acting as mentor to two Filipino divers could not hide his disappointment over his prized wards with competitions set to begin in a few days.
“She’s hard-headed," Chinese diving coach Zhang Deju said, referring to Filipina Sheila Mae Perez, the former Southeast Asian Games multiple gold medalist who has been training under Zhang for a long time now.
And when he saw his other ward Ryan Fabriga walking a few steps away from inside the Athletes’ Village Thursday, the coach didn’t hesitate to tell the truth about his student of eight years.
“[Ryan’s] overweight too!’’ Zhang told a Filipino sportswriter at the lounge of the huge Village.
The tension couldn’t have come at a bad time with Olympic competitions in diving only days away.
