it's every year in cambodia, they do the contest Srey Sroh Bros Saart. The way they act and everything is the essence of finest Khmer behaviour.

They are not dark by Cambodian standards. There are darker Cambodians than these ladies here. Though, seriously, most of the darker ladies would have no chance in a Cambodian pageant since they are not considered beautiful. So Tav6, why you even bother asking if you know the answer already?

dark = poor country person who worked the fields.

those girls are tan. they just aren't exposed out in the fields like the common khmers living in the villages. these girls are probably daughters of wealthy khmer men. they have that traditional khmer look.

i'm going to say something that a lot of people here might not like, but darkers cambodians tend to have ugly features. i hear older cambodian women talk about this all the time. the lighter here are "hybrids". they have khmer and sino features considered beatiful: nice light complexion (nuon la'ong) and/or sharper nose (chramoh sruoch) with non-chinesey eyes eyes. if you notice, there are never pure chinese in these paegeants cos chinesey eyes or really dark skin khmers are not considered lovely by traditional standards.


these chicks in the pageant may have a slight tan, but like i said, they are of not the darkest khmer complexion, but their complexion range is what cambodians romanticize about. in so many songs and poem, the terms are about this light creamy complexion, nim nuon, nuon la'ong, nuon srey, never about darker complexion (or rarely).

mushrooms, I can't believe you've said that. There are LOTS of dark/tan skin Khmer girls who are way beyond more prettier than those wealthy light skin Khmer girls. The everyday dark/tan skin Khmer girls don't have time to be photogenic or the time to strut and play dressup barbie while their daddy is coughing up cash. I'm sure you have come across real Khmer girls in parties, clubs, restaurant band and Khmer New Year. Honestly, I wanted to take some of those real Khmer girls home or even marry them altogether. I'm not going to find any pics of them and post it here but believe me they are out there, especially on myspace. You can also look up Jasmine Fox, but lately she's been eating too much.

EDIT: Just wanted to add that if the real Khmer girls were to be in those pagaent, they would put those "spoiled" Khmer girls to shame.

Sorry, I forgot to mention the beautiful dark skin Khmer girls that I have come across in Cambodia also. There are plenty but they have everyday jobs just like the normal class people. I've seen them everywhere, weddings, parties etc... I just wish those girls would represent in the pagaent instead. But its all about money and that is true.

embrace your skin color, doesn't matter what color you are, if you are a good person then you are a good person, skin color have no boundary when come to a bad person.

Professional photoshop make tan girls became snow white. Cambodia will be the second Thailand of best selling whitening products. It is true in Cambodia people like to be light. Here in the states we love darker skin.

I like the last girl in the first picture in the thread. The picture Lucas posted of chon chan leakna is good looking too, but I don't like the other girl since we know here nose his fake. In all of Asia, not just Cambodia, light skin is preferred. Its it my cup of tea, hell no. I would like to see normal looking people instead of those bleach white skin people.






Mushroom, I don't know what you consider dark Khmers to look like, but the "siam" color is what I think 90% of pure Khmers are naturally endowed with. They either go darker or lighter, but all Asian people go darker. That's asking why most people in beauty pageants in Japan usually don't have the really small eyes 90% of Japanese people usually have, can you ask them why the don't represent those girls?

I don't give a $hit about representation actually. Pageantry and modeling is about beauty mainly, I understand that. But Tav6 was saying why are there not any darker ladies in the pageant? After I've poke around some nerves here in this thread, no one has yet to post a pic of a really dark skinned Cambodian model. Which supports my point that dark skinned models are non existent in Cambodia. Hence answering Tav6's question.

I guess it all depends on perception. I don't think its necessary to replace one end of the spectrum with another.

I actually don't mind what skin complexion the Khmer girl has honestly, but I will always defend them because they are always either left out or being trashed talked about due to their skin complexion.
