is it just me or that little boy in the film is isan, he said na-li-ga instead of moang.
anywho its a boring movie. i think the thai didn't anticipate pdr was gonna make them change everything to Lao theme.

I dunno, but he said "Khup"/"Krup" in the movie and you know Lao folks don't say that. In our language, the proper word to use is either "Doi" or "Jao".
Anyway, in Lao language both "naa-li-gaa" and "moong" mean watch or clock.
I'm not an expert on Isan dialect(s), but that little boy did sound like he was speaking something similar to an Isan accent or perhaps he was from southern Laos. But still, Lao people don't say "Krup".
I still don't understand why they didn't use a woman with a "Tai Muang Luang"/Luang Prabang accent in the movie. A bulk of the movie was comprised of Lao actors who had southern accents. Even the Vientiane accent(s) didn't sound like the kind I'm used to (i.e. Alexandra Bounxouei's accent). The water guy in Luang Prabang also didn't sound like the typical Luang Prabang person. However, I think he did use a Tai Muang Luang word that only they use in their dialect....but I'm not positive.

Yeah the main actress had a VTE accent, but not the kind that I'm used to. As far as "naa-li-gaa" is concerned, you have to keep in mind that Lao, Thai, and Khmer languages all incorporated Indian loanwords. "Naa-li-gaa" sounds Indian to me but it's now a part of our Lao language just like how I'm sure it's also a part of the Thai language, as well. Similarly, the English language uses many Latin words, but the words are now considered "English" words. Likewise, Indian loanwords are also now considered "Lao" words because they are embedded in our language.
In my opinion, comparing "Moong" to "Naa-Li-Gaa" (watch) is like comparing "Gin" to "Hap-Pa-Taan" (to eat).
i dont know if you can compare it like that but im not saying im right however how man people have you heard say na li ga.

That's fair enough...anyway, educated people tend to have a more extensive vocabulary. This applies to all cultures and languages. I've heard business people use the word naa-li-gaa. I'm not saying that "naa-li-gaa" is better or worse than "mohng", but we've got at least two words to choose from in our language, so be happy about this! hehe

Thais usually prefer to use Indian words, whereas Lao folks use both native Lao words and Indian words like "naa-li-gaa". Just like how we use both "Gin" and "Hap-Bpa-Taan" for the word Eat.
