Did any of you watch the Beijing 2008 Olympics?
Ever since I could remember, the furthest memory of me and Olympics was the Sydney Olympics and I never once see Philippines get any medal.
So basically, what do you think the Philippine government should do?
Philippines is a poor country, and so is Jamaica and Ethiopia - even poorer - yet their country always gets a gold medal every Olympics!
Also Filipino's should try focusing on other sports. Basketball is, to be quite honest, something Filipino's will never be at the top at!
Swimming, possibly. But height also plays a big role in swimming, it's all about who touch's the end first - and Filipinos typically are in the size small.
The last time Philippines was recognized in basketball on the international stage was in the 1934 Olympics when we came in 5th place. At the time, countries such as Spain and Argentina were new to the sport. Most Filipino athletes are typically short compared to the giants from continents like America and Europe.
I think Filipino's will be better off in sports such as Archery, Shooting, Equestrian (Horse Riding - we have a lot of Calesa/Tartanilla riders out there that can win a Gold for Dressage), Rhythmic Gymnastics and even Walking and Fencing. Unfortunately these sports are heavily underrated, unpopular or unwanted by most Filipinos.

Its probably the olympic program that is lacking funding or its not prioritized at all. Do the government even give a damn about the atheletes?

While i share the concerns of the OP, the suggested alternative sports mentioned such as archery, shooting, equestrian etc will be even harder for the government to support due to higher equipment and infrastructure costs. it should be a combination of promoting other 'simpler' sports and funding sports that's less expensive to set up. yeah, i agree that there is too much emphasis on basketball whilst neglecting other sports such as soccer, sprinting, long distance running etc, which 'poorer' countries tend to excel in olympics. i highlighted soccer due to its global appeal and potential richness that's enjoyed by african and south american countries, but food for thought.

Philippine government should concentrate on simpler Olympic sports like
judo & taekwondo. Forget basketball.

Like the Philippines we also did not get any medals.
The government donated they say 40 million to the Olympic committee here. Some say thats too much and that next time they should not worry about sending quantity but instead should concentrate on quality.
Like the Philippines I think we also must have good athletes. But sometimes, not always, the problem is knowing the right person to get on the olympic team. Chances are an important or well off person will have a better probability of getting on the olympics instead of a poor person even if that poor person is better.
