Objective:

Invest in stocks of low P/E, low P/B, low P/S, and low PEG.
Vinceroni
Actually, it's buy high, sell higher, and never try to bottom pick. But that only applies to traders. Investing is a different game.

Is this clan about investing or trading? Investing in a bunch of stocks with no idea about the management's capability, the company's performance prospects, or the time horizon in which the "tip" is a good investment is pretty suicidal if you ask me.
SoCal
Vinceroni,

Whatever works, you may use investing and trading. What stocks have you?

This is how I choose stocks.

Burma Man,

I use www.Zecco.com. If your account has at least $2,500; then you get 10 free trades per month. Otherwise, you pay $4.50 per stock trade.

You can take a look at the stocks below. You can go to the link below and screen the stocks below using the criteria I have listed.

Thanks for the info.

What about the tax? How many percent do you have to pay when you buy/sell? How does it affect the federal/state income tax return? Do you get someone like H&R Block to do it for you or use the software that you can buy from Best buy/circuit city? I've heard that there is a range for income tax and if you go hit the next range then you have to pay more?

Take a look at the valuation measures of KONG below. According to my personal investing style, I would not invest in KONG because its Price/Earnings is 89.33. I prefer to invest in companies with Price/Earnings of less than 10.

Kong's PEG ratio is 4.54. Again, this is too high. I invest in companies with PEG ratio of less than 1.0.

I pay $24.99 per 6 months for GainsKeeper and it keeps track of my capital gains/losses. You can choose to keep track of it by yourself using Excel spreadsheet.

For long-term capital gain (more than 1 year) on stocks, you need to pay 15%. If it is short-term capital gain (less than 1 year) on stocks, you pay at your current tax bracket.

Due to the mortgage crisis/credit crunch I've been getting killed in the financial sector for the past few years. However I've been able beat market returns due to my "safe" dividend stocks. Thank god the US Treasury announced the bailout for FanMae and FreMac.

Anywho, you guys should try this site.

I used to use it during my undergraduate days. It's a pretty good stock simulator, it's good for college students to practice before they head into the real world.

TO thread starter (SoCal). If you like, you can start up a Investopedia account/game and make it public to all the members on AF. Just post the Game Name on the forum so people can join. So everyone on AF can compete with each other and see who will be the next Warren Buffet.

Is that 5% return each year? So in 3 years, you will get 15% cumulative?

In this crisis, it is fine that you put your asset to earn 5% annual return for 3 years in 2008, 2009, 2010. However, when investors are fearful, people who invest usually make more money.

With the economy the way it is, all you need is capital to be successful right now. Everything is so low.

I have been investing since 2003 when I was 18, even aggressively day trading at times.

Honestly, investing is the key to everything, I feel sorry for people who don't know how to invest. Working for 40+ years... and some don't even have a guaranteed pension/401k plan, fu-k that, it's all about making your money early and retiring in your early 30's baby! =)

Value line is almost essential for stocks. Morningstar for mutual funds, ect, ect.
