i saw this last year on a english speaking channel while I was stationed in Korea. Crazy how they have to cross to Laos and then to Thailand and purposely get caught to go to south korea.

Wouldn't be easier if they just cross to China then a boat trip to South Korean. Going through China, Laos and Thailand is a long way.

Remember China is a friend and business partner with North Korea. If the Chinese caught them they will be deport to North Korea and that will be labor camp and death setence to the family, whereas in Thailand if they got caught it will land them in jail for a while than will be release to the South Korea embassy which mean they will be sent to live in South Korea (freedom).

It is funny we never thought that some of Korean refugees have the same experience as us: Lao, Hmong, Mien, and others tribes from Laos crossing the Lanxang River (Mekong) to Thailand for a better life.
