Recently a close relative of mine visited Seoul for a couple of days, I asked him how it was, neither of us has visited Korea before or had much contact with koreans.
He said he thought Seoul must be a very ordered city, but instead it's quite chaotic, small traders selling stuff everywhere, even on public transportation, the entrance of every super market is a sort of stage, many things always going on. He said people were very nice to him, even they had communication problems, at one time he was asking for direction, an old man walked all the way with him. Many people were very helpful. From what I heard, he was better treated there than in any US/European cities.
This confirms my view that all the china/korea bashing here have more to do with some members ego than with reality.
It seems that every thread about china-korea ended up in fighting, I hope we can discuss things in a friendly way for a chance.

Tell me a capital city ANYWHERE that isn't a cluster f*ck?!? It's the nature of the beast. Koreans may have their faults as a group, but the fact that there are merchants everywhere, large and small shows that being lazy is not a common Korean vice.

lol. I agree with you, but the angry tone... XD
but yeah, your going to see the behavior that you described in almost every, if not EVERY, major city in the world. New York (PRIME example), LA, Tokyo, Osaka (been there, scary stuff attempted to be sold to me lol), Shanghai, etc etc

I think unless u go all the way into the back ally of a gansta territory, otherwise most cities in asia are pretty friendly toward visitors.

Actually the Gangsters in Korea love foreigners. They shuffle them around like there own personal concierge, show them to there establishments to have a good time (clubs, bars, restaraunts,
massage
.) but if you owe them money...
Different story.
But then again this is from second hand accounts from Korean Americans that were either stationed there in the military, ESL teachers, or university students.

I think this is very likely true and definitely true in regards to Korea/Japan bashing. Korea and Japan are each other's most-visited countries and a lot of people on both sides study the other's language and enjoy its pop culture. And when they visit the other country they typically have a great time and rave about how well-treated they were.

A $hit. I'm the only one who wants to know more about the small trading instead of the polite attitudes of Koreans?

Yeah koreans are really nice to tourists I feel. This one b!tch in COEX mall almost pushed me off the side of an escalator though.

Now that I think about it, I think I understand what happened with you. You don't have to take the pushing personally. In Korea, people stand on one side of the escalator so that others could run up it. They started this rule in the crowded subways so that people who are busy can get through quickly. Some Koreans don't move over so people will squeeze through them. While it's normal for Korea, it's rude in Canada. I understand how you feel about this.
In the subway trains, there could be 20 or more people between a person and the doors. It would take a while for all of them to move out of the train for that person to get out. So that person will just squeeze through. The Koreans won't get annoyed by that because they'd do the same. I do a lot of pushing when I try to get through in the subway. I couldn't think of doing it at first. But later on, I started to follow what others did.

What Cha said. Was the b!tch young? Middle-aged women are much, MUCH worse.

Even fellow Koreans hate those pushy women. lol

I think online forums should be a reflection of reality, me as a chinese nationalist(and proud of being one) have no problem fighting anyone who want to seperate or damage china, if I meet a tibetan seperatist or TIer from taiwan, there is no way we could have a friendly chat, a younger version of mine could even sell them a couple of punches/kicks if the chances present themselves. But in case of korea, I don't see a reason to be hostile, I don't see a reason why so much bashing is necessary, maybe for personal reasons of people to got involved, but china and south korea as a whole should treat each other as friends.

My experience in other Asian communities has shown me that most people tend to look down and laugh at guys who act immaturely, stupid, and "tough". If a "gangster" were to act "tough" and start "dogging" a person from the Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese community, most Chi/Tai/Japanese people would just laugh and find it very pathetic but humorous.
However, it seems as though the reaction from a Korean to a gangster "dogging" him would be to start fighting. LOL. Hmm...this speaks volumes about the difference in maturity between Koreans and other Asian groups.
Korean culture seems to really admire and worship low life street gang life and acting tough on the street like a bunch of immature children with an inferiority complex. Hmm..very interesting. I thought Korean society respected more civility and maturity. I guess that's not true.

I agree with the OP
I had a Korean Roomate for 1 year, we always had a very mutually respectful relationship. I never started $hit, he never started $hit- he was very interested in Chinese Drama's, History and everything- and I showed alot of appreciation for his interest, he invited me to his Korean club parties and dinners- and none of the Koreans ever had beef with the Chinese.
The b!tching that goes on in AF are really just insecure weirdo's with something to prove on lief.
