So it's only a couple of days since I came back from an epic trip back home to the Philippines. Anything you want to know about the old country, shoot your query my way. I'll do my best to enlighten you.

What's the new craze over there or products that you realized got big when they weren't there before?
Where did you go?

When it comes to new crazes, (many) Filipinos are crazy about Akon and T-Pain. To think five years ago "black music" didn't have a chance with Juan Dela Cruz. As for products, the iPhone or any cell phone with lots of audio and video applications.

Lemery, Batangas, where my family originated.

Flavored iced tea drink. Think Snapple with fizz.

Nope.

There's quite a building boom going on despite the perpetual crappy economic state the country's in. For example, my parents' hometown of Lemery, Batangas has seen a flurry of businesses and subdivisions surface since 2006 (the last time I went home prior to my most recent visit). A Max's and a Greenwich in my berg? Nice beerchug.gif.

Man, I knew Kard was Canadian all along laugh.gif.

The streets don't smell like a thousand dirty diapers, but the air quality isn't something to fall in love with.

The air quality was worse than Bejing perhaps?

Why it was the pearl of the Orient back in the day. If a slum city with a tourist area like New Orleans can make it or a city like Rio where death squads disappear unwanted street children why not Manila?
