Asia Finest Discussion Forum > AsiaFinest.com > Talk about AsiaFinest
jrockerz
I noticed, here, some people still call us indon's while having discussion.

maybe most of you guys wont notice this , because mostly it happened mostly come out from malaysian.
let me tell you, no matter what race they are (javanese, sundanese, chinese), Indonesian will be very offended when you say Indon's
its simply equivalent to racism call toward japanese such as J A P is a short of japanese..
i wondered why AF filter that word, while keeping Indon word roam freely.

it has been discussed here, but unfortunately it never finished.
http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/index.php?...47&hl=indon

this is auto modification from AF that has been approved :
chinese
N*gga
Japanese

as Indonesian, I demand, Indon( or indons or indon's) to be modified as Indonesian.

if you check indonesian serious talk to know why. that kind of term commonly used by some specific nation. mostly for negative thing.
http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/index.php?showforum=42
while the official term are still using the original name which is Indonesia
this is proven when you google thishttp://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=I3Z&q=malaysia+media+indon&btnG=Search&meta=
it came out my string was malaysia media Indon , the term mostly came out as Indonesia not indon
it simply admitted as official, term Indon is not an official and polite way to describe Indonesia(n)

and I have another strong reason for that.

that term never been used for Indonesian media (of course!).
also the majority of the world media to describe Indonesia/indonesian.

in conclusion
the shortening of name mostly are offensive.
except that the term has been widely used in its own nation.

I hope mod or admin can discuss about this.
even tho Ben who decide who become MOD, i d vote whoever can pay attention to this kind of issue

thank you

update** 25 sept

thx all people and Ben for the responses I appreaciate that

the reason im making of this thread originally is
its to educate, for some regular people (not people who like to insult intentionally), who never mean to insult or offend
but ended offend some indonesian. due some misuse the offensive
word that used to be regular in some place. (not indonesia).
and it become a fight. because of misunderstanding.

its remind me, when i used to say N*gga to represent black people
in my english class, I only knew that word a lot from TV, so i never meant to be racist.
but I just learn its not the right word when my teacher told me its rude and racist.
then i feel sorry.

Agree !!

The word Indon has a negative connotation in it....please.
Ralf
You need to PM the mods and Admin about this or they may not understand.
Otherwise they may think it is a petty matter, rather than a serious slur.
Bhaskara
I know, Ralf. People need to know that this is dead serious!
MichikoY
but Indo is ok right?
jrockerz
^ yep.

perfectly fine.

Ben
hmmm good to know. On my next update, I will add them to our filters.
Ralf
What do you all think about derogatory names used to attack Malaysians, such as Maling.... Malingsia... etc... ?

I don't want to stifle the forum with too many "political correctness" rules enforced by mandatory punishment, but I would like to see more "fair play".

I think anyone who is old enough to figure out how to login and write in our forum, should also be old enough to understand the difference between "fun and games" and malicious name-calling or stalking.
VietSk8rGUI
you have to do it on an update? lazy punk!
XigonCongchua
hm...seeing this thread can I ask you to filter the word "Youn" and change it to "Viet" too, Ben?

I know in Cambodian language the word Youn means Vietnamese (from Yuet/Yueh in Chinese) but it is also a synonym to a Sanskrit Khmer word which means "barbarian". Recently I noticed some Khmer members tend to use this word in a negative and insulting way to address Viet members.

Like in this thread for example
http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/index.php?...74272&st=20

The member with the nick preahvihear always use the word "Youn" to address Viet people instead of "Viet" or "Vietnamese". He also capitalizes the whole word YOUN to emphasize the insult. I don't really care what he calls us when he speaks his own Khmer language, but hey, he's speaking English! Why doesn't he use the English word "Vietnamese" or at least "Viet" to address us? I didn't really mind when they used it once in a while but recently I noticed that all their posts addressing Vietnamese were filled with the word "Youn". Every time they need to say "Vietnamese", they say "you YOUN". So Ben, when you filter the word "Indon", can you please filter the word "Youn" too?

Edit: BTW can I request you to IP ban Puff and spud in the following thread too? They are really the same person who have made like 1000 accounts and opened like 100 threads similar to that one in Viet Chat, all say the same thing: Vietnamese are ugly with yellow skin and slanted eyes.

XigonCongchua: Sep 19 2008, 11:58 PM: In Vietnamese we call the Khmer Krom "Miên people" just like how we call Khmer people in Cambodia embarassedlaugh.gif We consider them a totally different ethnic like Cham and Hoa. We never associate them with our Viet/Kinh people. Yes, they carry a Vietnamese nationality, but ethnically they aren't considered Viet/Kinh.

Please add the Vietnamese derogatory word of "Mien" for the Khmer people to your filters as well. Mien is a derogatory word that the Vietnamese members repeatedly use to inflict humiliation on the Khmer people. Therefore, Mien should be replaced with simply Khmer or Cambodian.

Hey, I am offended with the words "please, thank you, and sorry". Can you sensor them or change them to "retard, $hitface, and upyours" too!

Many Thanks

Sure if that bothers you. I just want to say that you need to draw a line. At least when we speak English we use the word "Khmer" or Cambodian to address you. I don't care what you call us in your language but when you say it in English, use the proper word "Viet" or "Vietnamese" to address us.

FYI, Miên is just a shortened version of the Sino-Viet word Cao Miên 高棉.
