why is it that when we do a type of form where we choose our race it always has a separate bubble for filipinos? why arent they in asians? and i dont see the philipines in the pacific ocean or in south america
The Philippines should have its own continent.
Could be the special relationship the Philippines has had with the US. Afterall, the Philippines was once part of the US.

What form are you talking about?
All forms I've seen has Filipino under Asians.

Are you in the US?
Back in the day Filipinos were different from other Asians who were almost excluded from immigrating in US law. Thus the forms reflected it. When Ward Connerly worked to get California law changed one of his points was the Filipinos were listed seperately because as a percentage of their population they were losing out to Chinese and Koreans to get the "asian seats" at the elite universities. Thus Connerly wants to stop all the racial/ethnic tracking

well, in some instances, the "Ilokanos" are even separate from filipinos. i guess we really just have identity issues...

Because some Filipinos don't realize that they are Asian.
Besides the term Asian is only connotes a geographic location. Would you lump in Israelis, Persians, Mongolians, Saudis, Indians, Malaysians, Chinese, Melanese, and New Guinians, all in the same race when they are clearly different from each other?
Race in Asia is more complex than Race in America which only has 4 or 5 groupings.
