my family did a few years back and couldnt compete with the other khmer family with their donut shops. Im hoping in the far future my family can start up again and not fail like before.

I'm doing a project on researching the cost of opening up a donut shop and it isn't cheap. I have much respect for Cambodians who owns and operate donut shops because the monetary and human resource investment it takes to keep a shop running and profitable.

I'm just wondering though... I have always thought about it and still continue to think why did Khmer people pursued to open up donut shops and such... My dad had many friends who owned donut shops and he used to always bring them home to us all the time lol... I always wondered where he got them donuts though haha.

I read in an article a while back that 90% of the donut shops in California are owned by Cambodians, I wonder if that is still true today? I am so sick of donuts, many of my relatives owned or are still running donut shops. They tell me it is hard work and they usually don't turn up a huge profit.

remember, when i was in cali. there were doughnut shops with chinese food in San diego. i mistakenly thought they were chinese, cause it said "chinese food and doughnuts",but they were owned by Cambodians.icon_smile.gif

There are pros and cons of owning a donutshop.

Pros:
easy making money(profitable)
supplies cheap
supplies and demand

Cons:
time consuming(fermentation,temperature,weather)
hardwork (night job alway hard, not enough sleep, and so on)
equipment expensive(damn expensive)

In respond to AsiaNETIK, cop don't hang out at the donut shop now aday at least in Memfrica. In order to make money in donut business you have to provide good services, and good donuts, and yeah try something that your competitor didn't have. Nice looking sale people is a plus.... laugh.gif

yeah, americans are too close-minded. well, some. lol. they'll only go somewhere if they're familiar with it. so, the name of a restaurant plays a key role in its business.
