Does it still matter in today's world????

Most of my frens say I am English educated... meaning westernised in point of view... instead of chinese educated being asian in point of view.

Does it really make a difference being westernised or easternised?

i grew up in western society and i used to think i'm pretty westernised and people say i am but when you compare western to eastern culture, western culture is pretty bland and lacklustre.

i appreciate and probably prefer eastern cultures, much richer.

Your organisation of social values influence your perspective.
No doubt values are pretty universal, the stacking order are quite different between east and west.

richer? hmmm... materially speaking, the western culture is richer

do u mean spiritual or culturally speaking, the asian culture is more varied and different and hence richer??

fundamentally, i actually don't see that much difference between easternization and westernization...... really, at the end of the day, u think there is a difference but it's just appearances.... people's instinctual beliefs and actions are still fundamentally the same, whether you are English educated or asian educated.. I dunno about middle eastern educated tho... confused.gif
Zaw-Gyi
i don't think you can be properly westernised unless you grew up in the west .

@ Tanga , Peranakan like this girl

I dunno. I was educated in SG but ppl say that I have a very westernized point of view and because of that, most of the time, people don't believe that I was born and grew up in an Asian country.

It's absolutely repulsive how any of us can come to be "Westernized" even so far away from their vile nations.

You're not American? You yourself are pretty damn westernized for someone so far from the "vile" western world.

i don't think it matters whether you are westernized or easternized as long as you don't think eastern values are not as important as western values and vice versa ... i think a balance is the best we should learn the best from the West and Keeps the best Of eastern values/ tradition biggthumpup.gif

Very much so, I'm afraid. It makes a big difference. Western-minded girls socialize differently. For one thing, they don't go to Buddhist Temples to pray for a good husband; they go out and look for one. thumbsdown.gif

Most of the Singaporeans don't even realize that their culture are somewhere in between east and west. Singaporean culture is essentially a 'mixed rojak' culture (or if you want to say, "multi-cultural"). It is essentially an unique asian society (immigrants-based society) with localized Singaporean culture (for e.g. Singlish), but surrounded by various other culture such as Chinese, Malay, Indian, Western, Islamic etc.
