Whenever i see other Asians, even here in AF...people keep posting pics of Asians from Laos, Vietnam, and whatever.. and they look poor.
But whenever I've seen Japanese, they look all fashionable and rich. And the Japanese travel and go to tons of places abroad and yet deny they are rich.
What is your take?

Japanese people are fashion conscious and set international trends plus they have enough to afford these things but Viet Na Mese people are poor and would rather spend that money on food while people from Laos are even poorer.
Fashion is what people worry about after they dont have to wrry about food or housing so this is why Japanese look fashionable. Japanese are probably not that rich but can be comfortable, but everything in Japan is expensive, i heard a mortgage on a house takes more than one genreation to pay off.

I would never consider my immediate family 'rich' mainly because my parents were too religious and tithed a large portion of income. I, however, hold a job out here in the US and can fend for myself, my apartment, my new car, etc. I wouldn't say it's because I am 'Japanese' but rather intelligent enough to be responsible. The Japanese in Japan however are certainly not some third world country and Tokyo is considered a major fashion capitol of the world [along with Milan, Paris, etc.].

I don't consider myself rich... I'm not poor, but not rich either... I think anyone can be rich, it just depends on how intelligent you are, and how you use your money...
about the fashion stuff, Korean fashion is as good as Japanese one too

Huh. So I'm going to be penalized for a simple word error that I made on my iPhone after not checking my quick spell-check. If word logistics is something you consider argument-worthy, then you're certainly not worth arguing with at all. But hey, if it helps that troubled head of yours fall asleep, then by all means...

Which one do you work at? I used to go to the one in Edgewater, NJ [right along the NY/NJ river border] all the time. I miss it there so much. I remember when it was Yaohan also haha. My immediate family isn't well-off but all my relatives seem to be; especially my grandmother on my mother's side. She always tried to get my mother to dress fashionably.

Oh man, my bf was just telling me how he visited this 'Japanese market' when he was there on business last month [Chicago]. That must've been it! Never knew there was one in Chicago, but that's great! Gives me more incentive to visit the area haha. I absolutely adore Japanese fashion; not just because I'm Japanese-American, but the couture side is just absolutely gorgeous.

i live in japan and college grads only make around 200,000 yen a month or 2k usd a month. compared to american college grads, they make a little more. average americans are definitely richer but not much.

LOL. Vietnam is still a poor country, so of course the majority won't waste money on fashion items and won't waste time on styling. This is not a fair comparison. When you see oversea Vietnamese in industrialised countries, things will be different. There they can dress like Japanese in Japan because they can afford it. Vietnamese are actually considered stylish in Europe. If you don't believe, then see for yourself.
For the ppl in Vietnam, their looks have changed in the recent time, and it will more due the rising income and demand for better appearance.

babyphat, i shop in your store all the time haha, ive been to both mitsuwa in fortlee NJ and of course the Chicago store, the NJ one is WAY better though, they have Japanese Salon and clothing shop and many other cool things.
but the fact is that Japanese have a high work ethic, and lots of "old money" meaning its generally passed down through the family.
also we are very fashionable because we are very judgmental towards each other and no one wants to be looked down upon.

Yes. Because my hair [before I bleached/darkened/etc.] was more a darker brown from the sun [I was a tomboy growing up playing sports all the time], my eyes are a lighter brown, my body shape isn't stick thin, I don't have a Japanese accent, etc. But of course, these aren't traits of just mixed people in general.

i wouldn't say rich, but since most japanese you see are from the city, and a lot of laos/viet/thai you see might be from poorer living conditions naturally they don't look that style oriented.
