by the way, one of my "better" amgirl friend told me that there are 2 types of pinoys in san diego: the ones like my cousin, and the ones who are proud of being kayumanggi... (lyk in apldeap's lyf story)

A friend of my parents who moved to the US and raised his family once came over to visit us--he brought his daughter over. She was a little older than me..and felt oh so superior.
Her hair was streaked and she wore certainly different clothes from me-- having grown up in New York all her life--
she could speak Tagalog but refrained from doing so.

anyway--i remeber that she was such a racist--i found it very weird to be racist against yoru own race :shakes head:

she'd insult and make negative comments about the way we did things and the way we spoke englsih-- i was like duh, di naman English ang native language natin no!!

I also experienced the same thing --but it this fil-australian girl instead--her mother was pinay--but her Dad was australian--
omg-- she complained so much about the food--and how it was so disgusting over here..
i felt like stickign her in a box and shipping her back to australia!

Hey, i'm not from the Philipines..
What's the difffernece between Fil-Ams & Pinoys?
And why do they hate each other?.. Is it to do with looks or something?
HutFlip
Stupid sellouts, it is a shame that filipinos are more likely to become sell outs than any other asians. Sadly, i've encounter a few. If you ask them about their ethnicity, they'd say they are hawaiian or they'd just say asian. icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi! Fil-Am is an acronym for Filipino-American, meaning they are of Filipino lineage but are already US born/citizens. While the word, "Pinoy", is what we Filipinos(fil-ams included) generally use to refer to ourselves, whether you're in the Philippines or not, as long as you have a Pinoy blood.

We don't hate each other. However, there are some Pinoys who just choose to forget their ethnic background and would even discriminate other Pinoys, just because they don't want to be associated with them! Actually, I don't see any logic in it, because I don't know if they realize, but they're actually discriminating themselves too. Besides, nobody has the right to discriminate anybody at all! Obviously, they don't have the Filipino values, or any value whatsoever, instilled in them.

This, of course, doesn't apply to all fil-ams. Just a few "special" ones.

there are alot of chics, not really that good looking that was like i'd never go out with a pure blooded filipino but she was one.

it's really sad for this kinds of people because one, they look down on their own ethnicity, second they miss all the good filipino loving and third make them so uneducatedly racist and have id crisis.

Another reason why I hate those stupid hawaiian wannabe filipinos. They are an disgrace to filipinos around the world.
flipcombatmedic
same here. i lived in hawaii most of my life almost but i encountered not so much as i would have wanted to i could diss them to the bone.

my mom had this lady when she used to work in mcdonalds and hte lady said in a very thick filipino accent that she wanted a cheeseburger without cheese. so my mom was like so you want a hamburger. and she was like no i want cheeseburger without cheese, and my mom tried to speak to her in filipino but the lady spoke only in broken and badly accented english like she don't speak. mom was about to grab her head and like pound some senses to her. it was sad because her coworkers were talking about how sad that a filipino lady who can barely talk english act like she's the boss while not knowing what she's saying.

but for the most part i know filipinos in hawaii that are not like these. most are ilocanos so i can't talk to them.
dalawapo
i think fil-ams may be more knowledgeable about philippine history than their brother back home because there is a great desire for fil-ams to retrace their "roots" or learn about their heritage... but you guys back home are more knowledgeable about contemporary history.

depends on the island but yes within six without stopping

it's pretty nice just like pi but cleaner but weather wise it's a bit drier on some parts. not much torrents like pi storms.

it's like saying a hate manhattan island without being there before.

sorry but no its not.

it is it's a piece of land populated by people of many nationality. nothing did hawaii do to make the whole world suffer in pain. i don't see why you should. but i don't have the right to get mad at you because it's you own opinion but that's all hawaii is.
dalawapo
hwy rigm, are u filipino? why do u have east asian celebrity on ur sig, are they famous like a cult among filipinos or what? do you guys try to imitate them, u know alot of east asian male celebrities look efeminate in their picture and stuf.

it's not about competition. see that's what is with people, they think it's always about competition and comparison. hawaii is beautiful and pi is beautiful and this is coming from a person that had been around not to brag. there are parts of pi that is disgusting so does hawaii, it's jut their beauty is different therfore cannot be judged at one specific scoreboard. i like hawaii but i also like pi, and there are things, being native born pi, that foreign places can't change, but it doesn't mean that they could never be beautiful or feel at home at.

hula and surfing is a culture originally from native hawaiians, it's nice to be part of it no matter what culture it is. it's like other culture saying we hate tinikling cuz you guys represent it for all the filipino tribe too much. it's those people who don't surf nor know hula who play it out. like i said we don't call pineapple pizza "hawaiian" like in most of us.

Even some Filipinos hate their countrymen too.

Yes, I'm Filipino. That's ZaiZai on my sig. He's a taiwanese actor who's part of the group F4 whom I like. They're very popular in the Philippines, and other asian countries as well. During the height of their popularity, I've heard a lot of people tried to look like them. I really didn't witness it because I was not there at that time. I guess their efeminateness makes them appealing to most asians.
dalawapo
how can filipinos like them if u dont even understand what they are saying? what about thai or cambodian singers or some tan asians, do filipinos enjoy listening to those bands?

Actually, the "F4" mania in the Philippines started when their manga-adopted series, Meteor Garden, was aired on one of the networks there. It was dubbed in Filipino, so people would understand. Some dvds/vcds with english subs also came out in the market. I haven't heard of any thai nor cambodian singers being popular in the Philippines. Maybe they haven't started promoting their artists internationally yet. I'm not sure though, as I am only relying on the internet and some news from friends back home, but why not? They are all artists and entertainers alike.

I don't think so. Jerry Yan is tanned & he's part of F4 and I like him. I still like Philippine showbiz. I, among millions of people, love Hero Angeles, a Filipino, and he's dark. I don't think color should be the basis of one's interest in people.
Ek-ek
He looked like Hero Angeles.

wait, I havnt been keeping up to much on this topic....umm, is that guy filipino, the one on the sig?
rigm
Some people say Hero looks like ZZ, but I didn't like Hero because he resembles ZZ. (Note: I don't think Hero looks like ZZ) In fact, it was the other way around. Of course, I've seen ZZ way before I've seen Hero, but during the MG time, I liked Jerry better because of his character in that series.
