A JAPANESE piano teacher has been arrested on suspicion of killing her "virtual husband" after becoming enraged that he suddenly divorced her in an online game.

The 43-year-old woman allegedly hacked into a man's computer and killed off his avatar in the popular interactive game MapleStory, the Associated Press reported.

The woman, who is in custody on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data, allegedly used the man's ID and password to log on and carry out the virtual murder in May, said a police official in the northern city of Sapporo, according to the AP.

"I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning. That made me so angry," the police official quoted the woman as telling investigators.

The woman was arrested on Wednesday, police said.

She had not yet been charged but if convicted could face up to five years in prison or a fine of up to $5000 ($7400).

MapleStory players create and manipulate avatars that represent themselves in relationships, social activities and fighting monsters and other obstacles. icon_twisted.gif

Uh yeah whatever? There's nothing wrong here. She got pissed off and even had the ability to hack someone's comp. It's a funny little story but in Internet-game related crimes there are several other actual insane countries out there.

It's weird that she took it THAT seriously... what's even weirder is that the police took it just as seriously. I mean, don't game admins usually deal with that stuff? I mean, I've had an account hacked in a game before, I've never thought to call the police about it and actually think they'd do anything.

if ever you read bizare there was an article dedicated to griefers, the Head CEO who's location / name wasnt disclosed created the idea, basically its just causing as much hell as possible on a game. So for example (there specificially targeting online games e.g. WoW) a group went on EVE and used the free starter ships to take down and destroy the kind of ships only availble by purchase from the games developer company. their moto was "we choke the guns of our enemies with our corpses" the scary thing is, it worked the bigg @$$ ship was destroyed, on that game when u loose a ship, u loose it forever biggthumpup.gif
