I'm doing a project based on slurs/slangs/derogatory terms
and I was wondering if anyone could help me answer a few questions...

Who uses the term?
How have you heard the term?
What does the term mean?
How is the term used?
To whom is the term used against?
Other terms related to this term(s)?
Has the term meaning changed?
Have you ever used the term? Why or why not?

and I still have more questions..but...I haven't yet come up with them...
so until then...

Thank you!~

I had never use those terms before... though it was refers to Hmong that just arrive to United States...
htt can be equivalent to the word FOB, use by Asian/Latino who ancestors came from the boat, though the word
htt only means HMONG FROM THAILAND... often time have been misused to classify HMONG FROM LAOS as well..

I've never heard the word being use against the Hmong from China or Vietnam...

It was created by insecure Hmong Americans who think they were better than newly Hmong to the States.
They believe that by putting down other make them feel more superior or have a higher status.

Again, I had never use the terms before... I think it's stupid and just plain childish as well as ignorant.

ahem, for some it's a matter of the fact that Hmong Americans or natural born americans of hmongs derive that way of thinking from the way things already are and have been. another fact is true, we hmong americans, or a number of us, are noticeably better than those immigrant hmongs.

The only times that I've heard people used it were usually the thugs/gangster kids.
The term normally refers to someone who just came over from overseas that are Hmong.
The MTT/HTT/M'mer MIGHT have originated in the late 1990's because back then they had pages, cell phones were very new at that time. Usually when they had pagers, they would type in 411 which stands form HTT/MTT. I don't know where the "MTT" came from but I'M ASSUMING maybe because the "H" in hmong was silent so who ever started the term just went ahead and used MTT. But this is what I think and based on what I've seen/heard! =)

Who uses the term?
people who are not from asia (in the case of hmong people, not from thailand, laos, or vietnam). usuing used by americanized hmong folks but the older people (elderly) don't really use it tho.

How have you heard the term?

referring to someone who is not americanized. i'm not really sure what you are asking for here.

What does the term mean?
Hmong Thaib Teb

How is the term used?
i think sometimes (maybe most times) it's used derogatively and/or condescending. sometimes used to explain someone (action, appearances, etc) who is not americanized/westernized.

To whom is the term used against?
hmong folks from thailand, laos, and vietnam.

Other terms related to this term(s)?
i don't remember how to spell it but that hmong word that means unsophisticated (a country bumpkin)...even tho they may be sophisticated.

Has the term meaning changed?
since i've heard it (from my childhood), it has not changed....hm...well come to think of it, when i was younger i never really thought MTT/HTT meant anything bad but maybe i was just young then...i don't know.

Have you ever used the term? Why or why not?
yes, altho i guess when i think about it i do feel bad for using it because i obviously used in a condescending way. it's one of those words that you'll never say it to the face of the people that you are talking about.
usually use the term to explain why and/or refer to someone who acts a certain way or look a certain way (and possibly think a certain way) then when you talk about them you talk about them you refer to them as MTT/HTT. when i'm talking about a certain way i mean something like not looking americanized (westernized) and etc.

hopes that helps you.
...and wow found out a lot about myself answering these questions. none too proud of myself either.

Hmmmm....mtt and htt, yes these are old school terms equivalent to fob, but if you think about it Hmong people can't possibly be fob's because we never came by a boat , rather by a plane so the correct term would be fop...Mauahahaha...Okay okay we're all Hmong stop all the teasing at least the Hmong that just got here can speak Hmong unlike non those already here, they suck seriously. It's laughable when I hear these young ins speak Hmong, can't help cracking up...Mauhahahaha....

Seriously, why would you use these derogatory words anyway? Everyone was an immigrant at one point, even some of our parents. Would you call your parent a MTT/fob? What about those miskas who can't even speak Hmong? Should we make up an acronym for them as well? Terms like this only cause tensions within Hmong community.

This tension causes a gang of madness. Now you want funk that results to sadness. Sadness results to a lot of revenge and your so called friends really ain't your friends. So how do you know who you're able to trust? If you think about the past look what happened to us. I never trust no one I only trust myself, or I would've been a victim like everyone else. In friendship or hardship whenever you need me, just give me a call G, I won't deceive thee. These fools be shakin' best believe they're fakin'. Just tryin to get a grip of all the money you're makin. This ain't race. A mind is a terrible thing to waste, I drop the rap and J drops the bass to the flow cause ain't nobody get with Fo, I'm a down young brother comin' straight outta Frisco, droppin' a message out of love to your town, love your brothers and sisters and I'll be around!
