Yeah, it would have been fun to hace let them drive to their destinations, but I guess it would've been too much of a logistical nightmare! Can you imagine - Nicole running over pedestrians like a video game and Colin hurling insults at practically every other driver?

Here is an interview with the presidential daughter Luli Arroyo:
Amazing Race’ contestants and the President’s daughter
2004-09-24 00:23:00(LA) / 2004-09-24 16:23:00(Manila)
MY WIFE Ellen and I were in Subic last week with our daughter Sam when we caught "The Amazing Race" on AXN. Yup, you know the one -- the episode where the contestants arrived here in the Philippines and tried to outdo each other in decorating jeepneys, plowing a field with the help of a carabao, and getting off a non-air conditioned bus and risking life and limb trying to flag down a cab along Edsa.
If you saw that episode, you must have also seen a familiar petite lady in a terno standing next to host Phil Keoghan and greeting the contestants when they arrived at the Coconut Palace for that episode's pit stop. Yup, that was none other than President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's daughter, Luli Arroyo.
Since my wife and I, as well as many other people, judging by the blogs and online forums, have been wondering how Luli got that "gig" and whether the contestants knew that she was the First Daughter, I e-mailed Luli asking her if it was OK to ask a few questions. And, just as in the past, she did not disappoint and was more than willing to help make this story possible.
Luli, who has been watching "The Amazing Race" since its first season, said she definitely enjoyed the experience. She recounted how she ended up becoming a part of Season 5.
"I was asked early this year by Jun Juban, the local producer, if I wanted to participate," she said. "Of course I said yes! I know I'm not photo- or telegenic, but hey, I was asked, I didn't volunteer. Jun said they liked that I was simple and that what they perceived of my character was a determining factor in choosing me to do the Manila pit stop welcome."
Now, the question that many people have been asking: Were the contestants aware that she was the President's daughter? And what was it like working with Keoghan, whom many fans consider the best reality TV host (well, apart from "Survivor's" Jeff Probst, but what many fans like is that Keoghan is nice, low-key and doesn't "steal the show" from the contestants).
"I don't think the participants were aware of that," said Luli. "Phil was nice; we chatted a bit. His assistant, Lisa, was very accommodating. The members of the camera crew were also friendly. I was also introduced to the foreign producer and he was so enthusiastic about our country and admired my mother, knowing how difficult it is to govern a country.
"Overall it was a pleasant experience, all very positive people. I think that's one thing I learned from that afternoon, that you get more things done and you're a happier person if you have a positive attitude."
Asked if she would ever consider joining an adventure race ("The Amazing Race," by the way, is only open to US citizens), Luli quipped: "I don't know if I'd be willing to join such a race, because I like traveling but I'd like to enjoy the places I visit rather than be under pressure -- all that time spent on airplanes and in airports must be worth the sacrifice!"
What's the most adventurous thing she has ever done?
"I've done quite a bit of traveling around the Philippines and abroad, with friends and family and by myself, and I can't really pick one experience to be the most adventurous. I think the best adventures come out of unplanned detours."
I also told her what some bloggers have been saying, that she forgot the cardinal rule in greeting guests in this country, which is to say, "Mabuhay!" So to set the record straight, I asked her what her exact greeting was and why "Mabuhay!" was missing.
"Because I was nervous," said Luli. "Also because I tried to recall the pit stop greetings I had seen and most just said 'Welcome to...' So that's what I said: 'Welcome to Manila, the Philippines!' I hope I'm forgiven?"
I have to confess that I haven't been watching the current race. For me, the best season would always be Season 3 because the characters were so colorful and the team I was rooting for won. Yes, hate me, but I supported Flo and Zach (well, OK, I was originally rooting for Jill and John Vito but it wasn't my fault they got eliminated).
Luli, however, said that of course this season, she couldn't really root for a team since she knew who would make it to the Final 4, and, of course, the results are top secret.
Asked to divulge which teams she has supported in the previous seasons went on to win, Luli replied: "I think [Season 3] should have been won by Zach. Just Zach. I rooted for the gay married couple (Chip and Reichen) and they won. This time, knowing the four teams who reached the Manila pit stop I think stopped me from rooting for other teams.
"I think this is also one of the races with more friction and conflict among the teams. The other races were as competitive, but you didn't really see too many arguments or physical tangling between teams. For me, that some teams were able to remain genial and kind despite the pressure of the race and the attitude of the other teams really showed the good character of those persons, and whether they eventually win or lose, they were able to keep their character intact -- and that is more important."
