Full Version: RP revives nuke program

Hi Tone
The Philippine government has officially restarted its nuclear energy development program after it entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korean government for a feasibility study on the possible revival of the mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant
The state-run power generation firm added that the nuclear reactor in the BNPP has a “twin sister” in South Korea, the 650-MW Kori 2, commissioned in 1983 and which has been operating since then.

I hope this works out, Philippines could use some alternative sources of energy.

Cory Aquino tried to revive the Bataan Nuclear Plant Program but it did not materialize.

I think Geothermal, Solar, Wind are safer and better alernatives for Energy. This Bataan Nuclear Power Plant Program will only lead to corruption because it is state owned and it will just be a problem not a solution to our energy needs.

I think the views of the majority of people in the whole world is anti-nuclear energy. No one can forget the Chernobyl's catastrophe.

Out of curiosity to think about what's happening in Europe on this issue ... in Austria, Ireland and Italy it is illegal to build nuclear power plants.
In Spain there are 8 nuclear power plants but Zapatero's government has said that wants to go gradually disbanded and replaced by renewable energy sources.
Germany (17) and UK (19) are largely undefined and pragmatic on this issue.
On the other side are Lithuania (1) clearly proatomic and France with 59 of these and planning the construction of a nuclear macrocentral to sell electricity to neighboring countries.

So the people watching all these differences think: What's the opinion of the technicians, nuclear physicists? Nothing new under the sun, the "technicals" support the thesis of each of their respective countries. icon_neutral.gif

The other reason why Marcos wanted a Nuclear Plant is to breeding more Uranium and Plutonium to be used in his Ballistic Missile Program. I think Marcos wanted to have Nuclear Weapons when the Vietnam War erupted. Since the Vietnam war ended, the Missile program was discontinued.

Hi Tone
it says that the Philippines had 700 nuclear scientist around the Marcos era, but now about 100 who are near retirement
tamang hinala
i would blame Cory actually, all of these are started during Marcos' time, but it gone nowhere during Aquino presidency...

Nuclear Reactor Technology was not something new in the Philippines when the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant was being built. The Philippines already had a small 3MW nuclear reactor since 1963 which is also used for research purposes and to train Filipino nuclear scientists. It was shutdown since 1988.

Though not to develop nuclear energy by the danger of an accident, radioactive waste or even a terrorist attack whether it's interesting that Philippines has nuclear knowledge and to investigate at any time because science and technology are essential for strengthening a country.

29 Aug 2008 ... China has plans for 24 nuclear plants and outline proposals for another 76, ....

Is the Philippines going to make nuclear weapons now?

It's for electricity to offset the oil dependency which hurts the imports/exports trade

"Nucular" bombs= Weapons of mass destruction.

Intelligence agencies= People of mass destruction... hehehe biggthumpup.gif

I wonder if the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant became operational, what will the government do to the by product waste of Nuclear Reactors which is Plutonium. Will they dump it into the Philippine Deep or will they give it to the US government for disposal which I doubt or will they just sell it to Al Quada?
NeoVxR
the waste is always a problem, and the more, if people cannot fully trust their governmental agencies that would be responsible for safety...
in europe there is a huge quarrel about the waste.

I wonder if hydrogen/deuterium fusion will be the better thing one day..

THe PI better start making nuclear weapons. Nobody's going to have a beef with the PI since we're like the allies for the West.

Oh but it does, back when the good ole days of the Philippines, we were posed to be an asian superpower, right until Marcos. screwed up.

Marcos was a victim of the destabilization planned by the Schultz-Kissinger arm of the Global financial Oligarchs in cooperation of our own local oligarchs who are are affected by the nationalization and protectionism stance of the late strong Man.

Light a fire movement was started. Environmentalists sponsored by the petrochemical industries, owned by the oligarchs, lobbied for the closure of the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant. Even today, GreenPeace, who are now known as antidevelopment under the guise of protection of the environment are vehemently opposing. And we all know who are the sponsors of this environmentalists.

I had an acquaintance before who was an elderly retired executive working in a company owned by a Marcos crony said that Marcos had already laid plans for the construction Nuclear plants employing cold fusion technologies using deuterium on which is very abundant in the Philippine deep. Pons demonstrated the viability of using deuterium using palladium as the catalyst. But some suggested, gold could be a better alternative.

If, BNPP became operational back then, along with the geothermals and hydroelectrics, we could have been 90 percent independent from oil. Obviously the oligarchs have other plans for the Philippines, that is to remain a subservient economy, afraid of the greater potentials of the Philippines as next superpower in the coming New Age. They would rather have Japan or China, than the Philippines who are known Warriors by Heart and in the Genes, to be super rich. They know with the right technologies and the right capital, with the bravery of our ancestors well known to them, the Philippines is a powerhouse which they can't possibly subdue. See my post about Marcos, Yama$hita treasure, Majapahit and srivijayan gold etc.

if they revive the nuclear power plant program and put it in the hands of the corrupt careless reckless government it is sure to end up like chernobyl... lollolol!! better not even think about it until we have the right people to handle it maybe in future generations because todays is just fu-ked up corrupt retards.
martin_nuke
If they activate the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant, the CPP-NPA will just highjack it and blow it up which is the their specialty. People living within the 100m radius would have to evacuate.
godamit
yes, a very high terrorist target.
AlfonsoCastro
I doubt it, it would lose all there legitimacy or whats left of it. But hey, what do you expect from such communist bastards right?
