It runs in the family. It started for me the last couple of years. If I get too stressed out I get high blood pressure attacks where my chest feels weird, my fingers start to tingle, and I get really dizzy and have to sit down til it passes. It's sucks @$$. Especially since I've been REALLY stressed out the last week or two. I've had at least two a day for the last couple weeks. I think I'm overworking myself. And $hit keeps going wrong. I'd get medicated for it, only I have no health insurance.
Federico
Don't overwork yourself then. Back up off it. Chill out.

Yep. I have hypertension and the doctors ran all kinds of tests on me and said it's genetic.

In the morning I take 40mg of Lotrel and 25mg of Chlorthalidone and in the afternoon I have to take 10mg of Bystolic

As far as I know there aren't any that are majorly apparent. The only thing I can think of is you urinate more the first few days you start on the Chlorthalidone (water pills)
IamAsian
this is said to hear that. high blood pressure strikes! but did you take some garlic supplement as they clear the
fat in your blood vessel

eat almonds or pistachio nuts, oatmeal, and do light cardio.
Jasel
Well you really need to get checked out by a doctor first. When I was diagnosed with hypertension a couple of years back I was doing daily cardio, eating right, and weight lifting 3 days a week and mine was sky high. If it's genetic then it's really hard to do anything about through conventional means. But a lot of Black Americans have high blood pressure due to genetics anyway because we tend to retain salt more than other groups. So definitely watch your sodium intake if you have high blood pressure.

Did you ever get your blood pressure taken to be sure that you really have it?
PS beetroot is apparently a good natural remedy for reducing blood pressure

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND ALLERGIES

My name is Brad Miller. I am 38 years old and live in Nevada, Missouri. I was relatively healthy but with two problems: allergies and high blood pressure.

First the allergies: I was on prescription medication for 10 months out of the year and even then I had to limit my outside activity during April - June. By using several herbal supplements I was able to get off the prescription medication and have not had trouble with allergies for 3 years. However, after drinking Limu for 3 months I was able to stop taking all of the other supplements and I continue allergy free. This was a major cost savings as now I only drink Limu instead of a handful of supplements each day.

High blood pressure: My blood pressure had continued to slowly rise over the last 5 years (so did my weight, up to 250 pounds.) 3 months ago my blood pressure was routinely 200/100 and I was ready to go on prescription medication. Instead, I tried Limu. Three months later I am 20 pounds lighter and my pressure is routinely 130/65. I have more energy and lots of new clothes (actually it was clothes I had 'outgrown' and could now fit in!)

I am convinced that Limu gives the body the nutrition it needs to be the best it can be!

Original Limu ™ is not a drug and it has not been evaluated by the FDA. It is simply a dietary supplement and is not intended to diagnose, cure or treat any illness or disease. While your body may experience amazing positive health responses when you feed it the right nutritional building blocks, and there is indeed reliable scientific evidence supporting the beneficial effects that limu's ingredients have on the immune system and numerous other biological functions, there is insufficient scientific evidence to support some of the specific therapeutic results reported by users of the product. We therefore promote the product for its benefit on the immune system but we do not, and you must not, promote the product on the basis that it will cure, prevent or treat any disease

fu-k off dude, I don't spend more than I make. Most of what I make goes into my savings account, which I'm working feverishly to make larger. Talktohand.gif

@Jasel: Interesting...okay, I'll watch out for salt.

@planxty: Thanks for the tip...beetroot, eh? Yeah, I've had it tested. And it's pretty bad for my age.

I've had high blood pressure since my pre-teens. It can really disfigure your face as well.. Like water retention, so no matter how much you work out you got that puffy, fatter face. For those that have no medical insurance, make sure you keep your sodium intake at a minimal and try stuff like garlic in all foods. For odor relief just soups are fine. Try more bananas before a good physical exertion. Also go to Walmart, because they are the cheapest in town and get Hawthorne Berries $4 - 5 for 100 capsules. Start at like 1 a day before a meal then 2. Also look out for gingko biloba and other supplements. I have no health insurance and look out for the best I can do.

Damn, you can't live here in Canada then! The cold might be to extreme and may affect your condition.
Do you actually get cyanotic on your nails beds often?

Healthy lifestyle such as good diet, exercise then water I think is very good in preventing high blood and other diseases.

wow, i luv u that much more now. we probably shouldnt be having kids together then. yeah, i'm pre hypertensive also. thats what we are. as long as your blood pressure still can go down by itself, you dont have high blood pressure yet. but it does run in my family. my dad had high blood pressure. it definitely sucks because u have to moderate your lifestyle. i'm a smoker and a drinker and i'm turning thirty this year. so i see a change in my blood pressure. i cant smoke everyday any more. thus, i have cut back to just smoking when i drink which is usually on weekends.

things u can do to lower your blood pressure without medication. well, at least if u dont have full blown high blood pressure yet, which means u are in the prehypertensive range.

munch.gif healthy, like a lot of fruits veggies and high in fiber foods like cereal and oatmeal. drink milk and soymilk.

-excercise and find time to relax.

-get some sunlight everyday. melatonin helps lower your blood pressure.

-avoid salty foods and fatty foods.

-if u do decide to drink, have like 1 to 2 drinks because drinking lowers your blood pressure but too much alcohol and dehydrate u, thus raising your blood pressure.

-some other things to, but i cant remember them.

the main ones, are avoid salty foods, do some excersice on a more regular basis like a few times a week. eat healthy. dont smoke for those that do an if u cant, cut back.

runs in my family
I had it when I was like 14 and had to take medicine for the rest of my life when I was 24.

But after having my babies, it went down, dont know why and they took me off my medicine, Im fine now.

You don't technically have chronic hypertension until you've gotten tested at least three separate times. What is normal blood pressure varies between males and females and between individuals. In the meantime, lay off the caffeine.
