A Filipino machine operator was reportedly sacked by an engineering firm in Australia allegedly for his toilet habits.

A Townsville Bulletin report posted on news.com.au said Amador Bernabe, 43, a Filipino machine operator was kicked out of his job by the Townsville Engineering Industries (TEI) for using water, instead of toilet paper, to clean himself during toilet visits.

The report said that according to Bernabe, he was sacked last week after his foreman saw him carry a bottle of water into the company’s comfort room.

The foreman allegedly told Bernabe that it was prohibited to bring water into the toilet. Bernabe told the foreman that "It's my personal hygiene. I didn't break any law. I didn't break any rules of the company."

The Filipino alleged that the foreman threatened to tell the management about his toilet habits.

Bernabe said the manager confronted him about the incident and was told to "follow the Australian way" of using the toilet or he will be terminated.

Byron Carter, TEI's company manager, confirmed that Bernabe was terminated for his toilet habits because it poses "a serious health risk."

Carter said other company employees had been complaining about Bernabe's unhygienic way of using the toilet. He said the Filipino had also been warned and advised several times before he was sacked from his job.

"Mr Bernabe's technique to cleanse himself with water after his toiletry visits leaves the toilet cubical splashed with water suspected to be contaminated with feces and wet soggy toilet paper lying on the floor," the company manager said in the report.

Rick Finch of the Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union, meanwhile, said in the report that the engineering firm's actions were "atrocious" and an "invasion of a person's rights and cultural beliefs."

"If it wasn't so disgusting it would almost be laughable," Finch said.

RP official urges respect for Pinoy toilet habits

A senior Philippine government official advised Australians and other foreign employers of Filipinos abroad against hurting or doing an injustice to Filipinos following a report that a Filipino worker in Australia was allegedly sacked for not adjusting to Australian toilet habits.

Speaking to reporters at Malacañang Palace, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita reminded foreign employers of the Golden Rule after being informed about the case of a Filipino in Australia whose employment was recently terminated by an Australian engineering firm.

The Filipino was reportedly sacked from his job for allegedly not adopting the "Australian toilet habit" of using just toilet paper instead of water to clean himself after moving his bowels.

"What is the golden rule? Do not do unto others what you don't want others to do unto you. I'm sure they would not wish the Philippine government or any Filipino to do what has been done to that guy by that Australian," Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita told reporters at a briefing in Malacañang after being informed by a reporter about the case.

Filipino machine operator Amador Bernabe, 43, was reportedly kicked out of his job by the Townsville Engineering Industries (TEI) in Australia for using water, instead of toilet paper, to clean himself during a toilet visit.

A Townsville Bulletin report posted on news.com.au said that according to Bernabe, he was sacked last week after his foreman saw him carry a bottle of water into the company’s comfort room.

The foreman allegedly told Bernabe that it was prohibited to bring water into the toilet. Bernabe said he told the foreman that, "It's my personal hygiene. I didn't break any law. I didn't break any rules of the company."

The Filipino alleged that the foreman threatened to tell management about his toilet habits.

Bernabe said the manager confronted him about the incident and was told to "follow the Australian way" of using the toilet or he will be terminated.

Byron Carter, TEI company manager, confirmed that Bernabe was terminated for his toilet habits because it poses "a serious health risk."

Carter said other company employees had been complaining about Bernabe's unhygienic way of using the toilet. He said the Filipino had also been warned and advised several times before he was sacked from his job.

"Mr. Bernabe's technique to cleanse himself with water after his toiletry visits leaves the toilet cubical splashed with water, suspected to be contaminated with feces and wet soggy toilet paper lying on the floor," the company manager said in the report.

A Townsville Bulletin report online said Australian Manufacturing Worker's Union state organizer Rick Finch said Bernabe was sacked for not adopting the Australian way.

Carter, however, denied Bernabe was sacked. Bernabe allegedly just left and never came back, the report said.

"Mr. Bernabe was given the opportunity to clean up his toiletry habits or he would be terminated. He was told the choice was his," said Carter in the report. "After a heated discussion with the workshop foreman, Mr Bernabe left his place of work without notice and has not been back to work."

Carter said the problem was an ongoing issue, the report said.

Ermita said he will inform the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) about the report and ask the agency to extend some assistance to the sacked Filipino worker.

"I'm sure they have a way of bringing this to the attention [of the Australian government] through proper channels, probably through diplomatic channels," the Malacañang official said.

He said he is sure Australia's ambassador to the Philippines has also been made aware of the incident.

"Le's find out what the DFA , representing the Philippine government, can do to look at the interest of this person," he said.

Just great, now Australians will know how filipinos clean up after doing #2. This news must be very embarrassing to the filipinos in Australia. Is he using the water and his bare hands? Or is he using toilet paper to wipe? If it's his hands, then that's definitely a health hazard, and if those water left behind the toilet cubicles are in fact the water being splashed from his butt, then that's also very bad.

Now if he's using water in such a way where he is just applying some drops of water into the toilet paper (so the toilet paper is wet when wiping), then that's just fine because that's how I do it. Going off topic, I hate it when I go at the wrong time and I only release a few and I can't "truly finish" no matter how hard I try. I end up spending an hour wiping my @ss.

We should have an instructional at the airport for every Australian on how to use the tabo.

And then remove all the toilet paper but leave a bucket of water with a tabo where Australians are known to hang out. laugh.gif
