this is the final thread of my Hanoi serie laugh.gif

Hanoi has not a well-shaped skyline like Manila or Makati yet but I think she is not really far from it. What do you guys think of Hanoi?

I've always known Vietnam was beautiful. Learned it through a myriad of war movies and historical documentaries and video games. biggrin.gif I also long to have some of your cuisine and of course, coffee.

Many Vietnam War Movies like Apocalypes Now, Platoon, Born on the Fourth of July, Flight of the Intruder, Hamburger Hill, etc... were shot in the Philippines because the terrain and biosphere of Vietnam and Philippines are the same.

It's a pity that there is no direct flight from Hanoi to Manila. I think it's a good place to make holidays. I love your beaches that you guys have there. Vietnamese always go to Thailand, Singapore or China.

Are there many Vietnamese living in the Philippines? What impression do they make on you guys?

True. Those movies help launch a little curiousity for the Vietnamese culture.

I've always heard of Saigon. Hanoi looks calm and refreshing though. Is it more expensive there than Saigon? I hope I can go there someday.

No, it's not more expensive.

It's less crowded and less polluted than Saigon.

Based on the "List of the most expensive cities" by Mercer Human Resource Consulting Hanoi is on the 91th place and Saigon is on the 100th place. Hanoi and Saigon used to be in the Top20 some years ago. It is the price for the standard of western level. When you travel as a low-budget tourist and don't always have to go to those fancy places, then it can be very cheap. Hotels in the Old Quarter are good, and totally cheap. If you lucky you will find a descent one under US$5 in the middle of the Old Quarter with a great view on the sparkling street life icon_smile.gif

Less than 5 dollars? wow that's great. I wish I could treat my brother and cousins to a tour there. They want me to treat them to Hongkong when I go home to the Philippines for vacation but Hongkong is expensive. Filipinos go there to shop and see places than any country since it's close and our familiarity with Chinese culture. My sister and her husband had been to Vietnam more than a year ago. She mentioned about French architecture on some buildings and noodles sold on sidewalks. She said she never went hungry because the food is cheap and there's rice or noodles everywhere. But I think it was Saigon since she said the weather is like Philippines.
salamat
