I just cut open a papaya thinking it was ripe but it wasn't. I don't wanna waste my money... even though it is cut in two, can i wait for it to ripen???

Once you've cut it up, it will go bad before it gets ripen.
Next time, just put it in a brown paper bag (preferably with a tomato or an apple).

i dunno they said ethylene gas will help it ripen

how close is it to being ripe.

maybe you can still try to ripen it with 1 day in the refrigerator

put it in the brown bag

put a banana in the bag

you can preserve the fruit a few extra days if you do the following:
  1. squeeze lemon on the fruit (only the insides). the acid in the lemon preserves food just like salt.
  2. wrap the fruit in saran wrap or in a container with a lid.
  3. stick the wrapped/covered fruit in the frig.

when you're ready to eat the fruit:
  1. take the fruit out the frig.
  2. run cold water on the fruit to rinse off the lemon juice.
  3. air dry or gently pat dry.
  4. cut up and eat.

Make it to1 Som-tum or papaya salad. chop it but not too small. Put the garlic, chili, sugar, lemon, fish sauce, small crab or dried , fresh shrimps and chopped papaya. Then mix it all. Taste it!
2 papaya soup with chili hmm... but it 's hard and maybe, you have not some ingredients.
And I have some trick for ripen papaya. You should see the skin if it 's green it's raw. It will be sweet when its skin is begin red. Good luck!
