Any predictions?

The only thing I am sure about is Heath Ledger winning the Best Supporting Actor award as his role as Joker

Nonetheless there seem to be a lot of good movies in the running like Slumdog Millionaire, The Wrestler and Milk

But The Dark Knight was snobbed so eff the Academy thumbsdown.gif

looks like that @$$ mickey rourke will win best actor........i don't like the guy so i wouldn't be watching.....
iMumble
Slumdog Millionaire must win best picture.
Joventino
I haven't even seen any of the Best Picture nominees apart from Benjamin Button
Enuff
The only nominee for best picture that I haven't seen is The Reader.
None of them blew my mind. shrug.gif
Slumdog Millionaire was fun I really enjoyed it. Milk and Frost/Nixon were educational movies. They were ok. The curious case of Benjamin Button was ok also I guess, but too fucking long.
Mickey Rourke was raw and very genuine in his interpretation, but again... None of the nominees blew my mind lol.
I really enjoyed The Visitor, but I dunno if I would have nominated Richard Jenkins. His character doesn't require much. He doesn't go through a lot.
I'm gonna go against the flow here, but to me Philip Seymour Hoffman should win, not Heath *hides* embarassedlaugh.gif He's gonna win nonetheless, it's the politically correct thing to do. Oh well.
Meryl Streep should win! Though I haven't seen all the actresses. Anne Hathaway was really good in Rachel Getting Married.
In the supporting role I'd say Amy Adams. Taraji P. Henson's character was more "likable", like more endearing (in opposite to the junkie of Rachel...). If it looks like The curious case of Benjamin Button is gonna win everything, it wouldn't shock me the Oscar went to Taraji.

And here are your big winners:

Best Director: Danny Boyle for Slumdog Millionaire

Best Actress: Kate Winslet for The Reader

Best Actor: Sean Penn for Milk

Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire

I was so happy Sean Penn won!! The Academy is finally giving him his dues and making up big time for all the times they snobbed him in the past

I haven't even seen Milk yet and I already know how awesome he is - that's just Sean Penn, lol
Brego
Yes, I agree with Sean Penn... great actors deserved recognitions!! biggthumpup.gif

Slumdog Millionaire completely dominated the Oscars this year, winning eight awards: (the most since Lord of the Rings: Return of the King)

Best Picture
Best Director - Danny Boyle
Best Adapted Screenplay - Simon Beaufoy, based on Vikas Swarup's Q & A
Best Cinematography - Anthony Dod Mantle
Best Original Score - A. R. Rahman
Best Original Song - "Jai Ho", by A. R. Rahman & Gulzar
Best Sound Mixing - Resul Pookutty, Richard Pryke, Ian Tapp
Best Film Editing - Chris D!ckens

The runner-up by quite a distance was The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which only won three awards:

Best Art Direction - Donald Graham Burt, Victor J. Zolfo
Best Makeup - Greg Cannom
Best Visual Effects - Eric Barba, Craig Barron, Burt Dalton, Steve Preeg

On a side note, two Japanese films won Oscars this year:

Best Foreign Language Film - Departures, by Yojiro Takita
Best Animated Short Film - La Maison En Petits Cubes, by Kunio Kato

In total, that makes it at least five Asians (including three Indians and two Japanese) winning Oscars this year, which is probably the highest number of Asian winners in Academy Award history.

On another side note, there was yet another Oscar-winning film set in India this year:

Best Short Documentary - Smile Pinki, by Megan Mylan

And oh yeah, it seems like no one's mentioned the Best Supporting Actor winners yet:

Best Supporting Actor - Heath Ledger, for The Dark Knight (as if it wasn't obvious enough)
Best Supporting Actress - Penelope Cruz, for Vicky Cristina Barcelona
iMumble
I was kinda right with 60% of them.
liu

I haven't seen Vicky Cristina Barcelona, but even if it is a bad movie, that doesn't necessarily mean Penelope Cruz's acting would be bad as well?

Judging by her performance at the Golden Globes, BAFTA Awards, SAG Awards, etc., it shouldn't be surprising that Penelope won Best Supporting Actress.

I think Slumdog Millionaire won because the sound mixing for it would have been more difficult due to the real live settings, whereas The Dark Knight was filmed in a more controlled environment (mostly on big-budget sets) which would have made the sound mixing less difficult.
Takashi
Still not seen Slumdog, still not tempted to see it either.
Joventino
I just wanna see it because it's a love story

Guilty pleasure, haha

I do, at every competitive event or at any event that results in a "winner".

I'll have look at the nominee list again and I have to see which one I got right.

As I already mentioned above, five Oscar winners this year were from Asia, two from Japan and three from India.

Actually, it was the Japanese guy who won Best Animated Short Film that gave that speech.

The other Japanese guy who won Best Foreign Language Film said something like "I'll be back!"
