Uzbekistan to receive the grant from Japan to plant the greenery at the dried bottom of Aral Sea

On March 17, under the grant assistance program from the government of Japan the Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary in Uzbekistan ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary, Tsutomi Hiraoka, signed the contract with the international foundation agency for preservation of Aral with the purpose of provision of grant money under the project of “Provision of agricultural equipment for establishment of the securing tree-planted zone of Aral Sea" in the amount of 66.344 US dollars. These funds will be directed to create the saxaul growing garden and organize the tree-planting works at the dried bottom of Aral.
The international foundation agency for preservation of Aral has been implementing the projects in the Aral Sea area for more than ten years. The biggest and most effective one is “The establishment of the cover crop in the Akkum bar and Ahantai area. This project aims at alleviating the impact of dried sea on the public health and environment, flora and fauna. The current grant from the government of Japan is designated to establish the tree-planting garden under this project. It is expected that the additional acquisition of technology units and equipment can help intensify the tree-planting progress.
It is also worth mentioning that with the purpose of improving the social conditions and wealth of people of Uzbekistan, the government of Japan has been conducting the grant program since 1995, targeted at social projects of small scale: education, public healthcare, improvement of social status of women. During 13 years of work 261 projects have been implemented for the total sum of 15 million US dollars.
