Full Version: Exactly who decides the closing of threads?

I've seen some threads get closed that were critical opinions but not a clear case of racism. Yet, I see truly racist threads go on and on some using derogatory terms. And other threads that were racist get closed but with the racist remark getting the last word! - why not delete the racist remark before closing the thread?

Is it simply a matter of reporting a thread? and a Mod will respond? Or is it an option of the Mod to respond depending on how he see's it? If so, this is the problem. I believe many mods are biased. There is no other reason for the random behavior of mods through out AF.

There should be criteria such that if a thread meets such criteria, then a mod no matter how biased, must respond in a given way - the closer of a thread, the deletion of a thread etc.. There should be peer review by mods of each country affected by a post so all sides get equal treatment.

If basic fairness like this cannot be met, then there is no reason for Mods. Let it be a free-for-all.

I agree with you. the last message of a closed thread should be a message from the mod.

also threads where people have made seriously attempts at discussion should not be simply deleted.

I agree. WTF is wrong with mods these days.

there should be a record of modding actions.

non-spam threads should never be erased. there was a recent c-chat thread that shouldn't have been even closed, but it was wiped without trace.

complaint threads should never be erased. I had that happen to me once

Ben should enforce this transparency from mods. if there are reports of erasing non-spam, the report should be investigated.

Agree, mods should post a last word before locking up any thread. Because some times, I think their reason for closing some threads could be trivial. For example, old threads that get bumped back up for discussion. What the heck is wrong with that? Why don't AF just purge all those old threads if we can't contribute anymore discussion to them. And I want to know their exact reason for closing it. I hate it when they delete threads, just because it is a discussion they disagree with. Deleting spam threads is fine though, but some threads, even though have controversial topics, actually are interesting to read.
