They had on the news some time back that Spain was doing sort of the same thing. You do know that in some nations immigrants bring much to the local economy of those nations.
hyder13
Spain's unemployment is about 15.5 percent though. AFAIK Japan's isnt that high...I think Japan will regret this move considering their deadly demographic shifts recently

Japan is ONLY paying foreign workers of Japanese descent to go home.
jobocom
so if they're not of japanese descent, they get nothing?

Get nothing? What do you mean exactly? They aren't exactly receiving anything except a free ticket out of the country. They're basically removing *at the very least*, Japanese-blooded foreigners out of their overcrowded country.

So only people of Japanese descent that are originally from Brazil get this special treatment. Not a nice way to treat people whose grand parents or great grand parents came originally from Japan plus it disrespects those same 100% Japanese grand parents and great grand parents that migrated decades ago to Brazil. Would think they would first try to get rid of all the other foreigners to meet there quota before needing to get rid of those with Japanese descent.

At least Brazil is a fun place and warm all year. laugh.gif

Japan is smaller than California with 4x the population or how about the fact they have roughly 1/3rd the population of the United States. Population is seriously overrated. This is a great move to battle unemployment because $hit is going to get seriously bad soon.

point taken; however, when you have a generation that's delaying marriage and children (and some opting to not have any children) those decisions have serious economic, political consequences on a country.

No it won't. Japans population is going down right now but that's good for them.

The size of a countries population does not dictate how well they will do as a nation.

I applaud Japan for doing this. Japan always hires Japanese over foreigners and they've thrived under isolation without "multi-culturalism"

my sister and her husband wanted to go as well, I sent them that story about a week ago, and they sold their japanese language book or traded them in for french. laugh.gif if our brazilian brothers and sisters are not wanted, then either are we.
I don't mind japanese government looking out for its citizens, but that "cannot come back to japan" tells all. bring people in to do the dirty work and make your lives easier, then kick them out and tell them never come back even if their children are born here. I didn't know they were only giving money to people of japanese desent though, thats messed up.

People who live in First world nations need First world services and retirement plans. That takes people paying taxes and into those plans. Less people means less money in taxes and paid into retirement plans which means standard of living for retirees will go down. And if you say raise taxes on the people that you currently have that means less money in pockets of private companies thus they need less workers. Less workers means less people paying taxes. It a vicious circle.

QUOTE
"A nation requires a certain scale in the population to continue its momentum, but in Japan, we are confronting a serious combination of a low birthrate and an aging nation," said Kota Murase, a deputy director at Japan's Education Ministry. "Our pension system is already being tested to its limits. And with fewer young people in society, the question is: How are we going to sustain the elderly and the nation's future? We don't have a clear answer yet."

Go here if you want to read the whole story. Story from 2005 and called "A Baby Bust Empties Out Japan's Schools
Shrinking Population Called Greatest National Problem":
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/artic...8-2005Mar2.html

QUOTE
Because of the prevalence of abortion and birth control, Japan, like Canada and many European nations, are facing a problem of too few people. The Asian nation is also seeing its population age and having too few workers to support the rash of retirees

and it's not like the japanese didn't do that a century ago in alot of part of the world.
hyder13
as a first world nation with a declining population, Japan should be willing to accept immigrants and not treat them like absolute garbage as a lot of returnee Japanese-Brazilians say they have been treated. If Japan can not accept people of the sane EXACT race back into their country then they must be an extremely xenophobic people, and I thought Americans were bad... Talktohand.gif

no doubt, japan's economy is in a recession. its been for a decade now. there is no growth in japan. although, i understand that japan pride's themselves on a racially homogenous country for the most part which is what makes them different from the west. i'm pretty sure, this issue is divided in japan. but, i think it states japanese will look out for japanese first. small island, overcrowded. multiculturalism might destroy what they have . thats probably what they fear. the west doesnt necessarily have that fear since its been multicural even before the industrial revolution. where as east asia is probably the most homogenous states in the whole wide world. considering their success within the past fifty years, its no wonder they are fearful of what multiculturalism might do to their country. it is an uncertainty for them.

but yes, i do agree that this is foul. although, its foul if the workers with visas thought, they were going to be able to stay in japan for the rest of their lives. its not that foul, if they were notified before hand that their visas can be revoked at anytime.
jrockerz
well im not so worry about visa actually.
more more into japan economy itself. it was like decades ago the market and creativity japan is so promising.
so probably we need to wait until world economy to recover.

read this , why foreign worker are highly demanded by japanese company in certain field

This attitude is centuries old, but I don't think that Japanese are sincerely xenophobic...i think it has more to do with following tradition and policy than with actual feeling. the cool thing about this is that japanese have always found ways to keep traditions and its policies bounded together, even among modern.....zzzzzzzzz
