My family be welcoming a Filipino business woman into our home for 5 days in 2 weeks. This is through an exchange program with a local Rotary Organization. I am not familiar with the Filipino culture or customs and I do not want to offend her or make her feel uncomfortable. Our home is in Florida, USA.

Any suggestions you have with regard to making her feel welcome, particular foods or snacks that I should have on hand, any cultural items that I need to be aware of would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly, as long as we get to spend a lot of social time, we wouldn't be offended. Also, food doesn't matter. icon_smile.gif

Although it really is a privilege if we were to be served with Filipino cuisine.

if she catch you eating or drinking, offer her to join you. we consider it good etiquette if you invite someone to share foods and don't be surprised if she does it too to complete strangers, that's just how filipinos are. even if they don't have enough, they're still willing to share whatever they're eating.

no need to trouble yourself cooking or buying filipino foods unless she specifically asks you where she can get some....like RICE! that's very important to them! embarassedlaugh.gif

filipinos feel they haven't eaten anything unless there's rice.

Learn some Filipino phrases to break the ice. Showing someone foreign a gesture of something that they're familiar with usually has them inquiring as to how you went about in learning what you have just said or shown.
