Most Indian Bengali's worship Kali. i think its their main regional goddess also its pretty common goddess worshiped among lower caste and tribal people but most ethnic Hindus don't keep her pictures or idol at home i dont know why probably because she is mostly associated with graveyards and war and used for black magic

Marathis don't worship kali avatar.
toshiba
Isn't she the goddess of death?

I heard that too, b/c she symbolizes destruction.....but it's destruction of evil, which should be a good thing.

I don't think it's bad to worship her. She is a reincarnation of other goddesses anyhow. I used to have a poster of her, regardless of whether people didn't recommend it.

om, i did, and i think its ok, understand certain destructive quality but out of reborn possiblity.

People killing in the name of Kali are the equivalent of Americans killing their kids b/c "God ordered them" to do so.

Henry123
Yeah one of my friends wanted me to do this ritual in a grave yard to contact her. He says he gets visitation from Kali frequently in his dreams. I think he did practice tantra or something in Bengali as well.

I have to be alone and I have to go beyond the gates of the grave yard dark at night. But I am having second thoughts if it is a good ideal or not.
Ive been told once you worship Kali you cant ever go back. You have to continue to worship her for the rest of your life. So thats why I am having second thoughts on this.
wallysing
you are nuts! no grave yard is neceassary u nutta! its not devil worship fool! this is 1 thing that we all go thru life and death and its just realisation of that fact man! kali is good! dont get it twisted!

Obviously your just simply ignorant.

I dont recall saying "devil worship" any where. Your words not mine.

Kali could have left foot forward or right foot forward. It has different meanings.
It depends on what forms of her.
wallysing
'grave yard' you said, but cremation i say. Also putting which foot forward is upto you, but there is nothing to fear from kali. I am not very learned in hinduism as i was all my lifee living in uk and as such have a limited understanding of this things. I however have thought alot and read what i could of vedas and books like such and conclude that it is not a bad things there u c ? Actually the worst things i understand are from munghal invasion. So dont worry kali is nice like momy and she love you and me and everyone but sad fact is true one day we all gonna die. So rejoice u are alive go forth and procreate hahaha drinkee 2 much this weeks . I think i would ask at hindu temple personaly about this things for sure its beter to be informed correct from knowedgable source.

That goes same with every gods and goddess once u consider them as your Ista Devata you are devoted to them for life and your future generations as well

Im sure your family has Ista devata that they have been following for centuries almost all Hindu families do

Also if you really want to be devote of kali then buy a Kali Yantra its considered auspicious to have it at home ( its a copper plate with geomatic designs on them) almost all gods have there own designs prayers are not complete without them. you dont have to go to graveyards its what Tantrics do

I don't think Kali is a bad goddess, if she is bad why people includes her into gods pantheon, she also symbolizing the destruction of egoism, and other badness. She is a form of Durga Devi in Mahabharata, I can't recall which parvam and which kandam. She also regarded as patron deity for thieves in Bhagavata Puranna because she can also be associated with black magic and Garuda Puranna (Vishnu Vahana) mentioned her as associated with corpse and graves. There are certain people in my country who did the rituals in the graveyard or cremation grounds last 500 years ago and some of them are martial art practitioners.

But I think you better worship Vishnu or maybe Shiva or other incarnations of of Vishnu or Shiva if you wanted to be a Yogi and also following your suitable rights (Dharma) when choosing Ishta Devata. Both of them are more superior in this Yug (Era), most South East Asian Hindus usually worship Shiva because it is suitable for agrarian community. If you are of South East Asian descent, then you have to check back your root and what is the Devata that your ancient kingdom revered including the history of your family if you can trace their Hinduism practice. Don't do the rituals in the graveyard, pleaseee!

Interesting. I never knew that.

I believe Kali is for both good and evil purpose, but I advise you not to perform the rituals at the graveyard because there is no turning back. I heard that those worshipers of Kali in Bengal were offering blood to her during earthquake (animals blood, there is some circumstances they offer human blood, that is ouchhh). You may check back your family background including choosing the right devatas and performing pujas to them, because the devatas should suit your responsibility (profession, your homeland, and etc). You may also watch this devotional movie about Kali (Amman), she is also worshiped in South India and she also prevents disease.

Tamils are so freakin creative embarassedlaugh.gif nice vid

Kali is not evil!
It is the mind of s/he who invokes Kali to do a real or imagined blessing that is of utmost importance.
What is the motivation to invoke Kali?
Why are you hurting others? These are the basic questions that determined the goodness or lack thereof for sincerity or malevolence.

They do no call it dark age for nothing?

Another guidance from primbon are the calcuation for successful and happily marriage. They calculate the day and pasaran for each bride and groom and made a simple calculation by summation and division. There are several complicated calculation based on Javanese month and year. Also by counting the number of characters from the name of bride and groom. The bad day also calculated for conducting the wedding.

The primbon also shows the mantra for slametan (the thanksgiving ceremony) and the preparation for food and place. The slametan is conducted for every important events, such as wedding, seven month pregnancy, birth and other things considered important.
