So does Singapore have a gang problem?
Just wondering.

What is the crime rate like?

Gangs in Singapore? Are you kidding me? embarassedlaugh.gif This is a place that uses law to make sure that people keep the bathrooms clean and gum off the streets. They crush the hell out of government opposition, what makes you think they would allow an opposition of any other kind?

nah.... icon_redface.gif

i was juz hanging out with my frens and we were in a bus when a whole bunch of gangsters ran into the bus to beat up some random guys in the bus... seems they had a challenge for a fight earlier, and those bastards were juz waiting for the chance to hit! my buddies and i were unscathed but those assholes punched the livin daylights out of the guys. The bus driver just froze and only drove to the police station when the fighting was over and the gangsters left in a hurry! later we were asked to make statements to the police.. i learnt later that technically speaking, the gangster fight was termed as a "riot" which is punishable under the ISA!!

Yeah, Salakau (3, 6, 9) is one of the oldest triads in Singapore still operating. there is also a Malay triad called Omega. But apparently many Malays have joined Salakau instead because it's lucrative! They used to fight around MOS and Club Momo...

Singaporeans are fast-becoming elite ... they go for studies or money ...

Gangs are a thing in the past ... 1980s ... now no more ...

No more childish gangs members who hang out using their parents' money ... that's super lame ...

well. actually LKY is quite the gangster himself... at least he understood how to act like one ... he knew how to BULLY and INTIMIDATE his opponents

Yes, the city has a gang problem; bigtime. The crime lords are recognizable by their dressing, which are nearly always white right down to their socks and shoes. Their underlings swagger about everywhere with guns on their hips and are dressed in blue.
The unreported crime rate is probably the highest in the world.

dat's the PAP triad lah!!! Pay And Pay!!! ahahahhaa... biggrin.gif

you guys say like its such a bad thing. maybe lyk does know how to intimidate his opponents, but dont all political leaders do that?

and bully? i cant be too sure about that. what constitutes bully anyways?

i guess its all a matter of perspective. if he wasnt so firm back them, i dont think that singapore would be able to prosper so quickly given the various issues we were facing. i guess "authoritativeness" (pardon me for the lack of a better choice of word) was more or less necessary, wouldn't you agree?

as for patchrag's reply i take it as a joke, yea?

back to the question, i would say that singapore does not have a gang problem, in the sense that they will not pick a fight with a random passer-by. maybe there are still some gangs in existence but i believe they pose no threat.

the crime rate is low compared to many other developed countries, but be warned - if you do not take care of your items properly, you WILL lose them still. i guess its always better to err on the side of vigilance.
