Emiri Miyasaka was crowned 2009 Miss Universe Japan in Tokyo on Monday, May 11.

"I can't believe it. I'm so happy," said the 24-year-old fashion model from Tokyo's Shibuya Ward. Under the theme of "1950s Hollywood," the competition was held in a show style.

Miyasaka will take part in the Miss Universe 2009 competition in the Bahamas in August.

Miss Universe Japan has been performing successfully in the world competition over the past few years, including 2007 Miss Universe title holder Riyo Mori, 2006 1st runner-up Kurara Chibana and Hiroko Mima, who ranked in the top 15 last year.

She is great! She deserved to win! Vietnam´s Vo Hoang Yen and her will be in the top 5 fore sure in Miss Universe 2009, but Vietnam will take the crown respectively and nt her.

I don´t think she looks like an SEA at all. Sher looks Japanese to me. It is just the makeup.

Like I said, She will be the one to beat in Miss Universe 2009. She will be in the Top 5 along with Miss Vietnam 2009 Vo Hoang Yen in Miss Universe 2009 and are the only Asians to make it far. But in the end, Vietnam will take the crown, because she is the better one of the two. Miss Vietnam has the whole package.

The whole beauty pageant thing is ridiculous - even the white girls are all slaves to it. White ,yellow, brown, or black, they all look like fake Barbie dolls. People should decide on their own.

Why is it sad? Pale people go having a tan, people dye their hair, people wear braces, people go to the gym...etc. What is wrong with having colored eyes?

^I don't have anything against light coloured eyes per se, but when you wear coloured contacts in a beauty pageant (or virtually anywhere else for that matter) it implies that you're ashamed of your natural eye colour. You can call me a traditionalist, but I would never dye my hair or wear coloured contacts for cosmetic reasons.

The, let me ask you some questions. Have you ever shaved your body/facial hair? If yes, are you ashamed of your natural hair growth and its look? Have you ever used hair gel? If yes, are you ashamed of your natural hair? And the list goes on....

That's irrelevant. We cut/trim/shave our hair for hygienic purposes; not many people like being "overgrown" in that respect. Coloured contacts just seem really superficial and unnecessary IMHO, I think it's better to celebrate the eye colour you were born with.

This is why I disliked her. She doesn't even look Vietnamese to begin with. She just has long legs (because she's a model) so they just picked her to represent Vietnam in Miss Universe. I think there are others who look more Vietnamese and more beautiful but they're not tall like her...so there you go. I hate how we always try to pick the tallest girls to compete in Miss Universe
