If they aren't doing proper research on where they're going to and are just blindly going places based on misconceptions they have, they deserve every drop of disappointment. There are too many resources with accurate information about world cities and stats to be that confused and lost.
Come on man, no need to come off bitter about it...
Most Japanese people are very kind-hearted, extremely well mannered and innocent, which can occasionally result in a kind of naivety. Life in Japan is quite sheltered compared to other countries. The majority of Japanese enjoy travelling and get around just fine, but a few people have a very hard time making the adjustment once they leave Japan. Seriously though, there's even a disorder named after those Japanese who can't cope well overseas:
"Paris Sydrome"
QUOTE
A dozen or so Japanese tourists a year have to be repatriated from the French capital, after falling prey to what's become known as "Paris syndrome". That is what some polite Japanese tourists suffer when they discover that Parisians can be rude or the city does not meet their expectations. The experience can apparently be too stressful for some and they suffer a psychiatric breakdown. Around a million Japanese travel to France every year.
