Sometimes, I felt like I'm supposed to be in Minnesota, but I guess not. lol

Mn is the land of lakes. Lakes and rivers everywhere you go. Here in Wi , we have abundant lakes as well and dense forest. I love the outdoors. Sorry I have no pictures to post.

@BH: What, you live in Detroit? I knew you live MI but not in Detroit. So, you're from the city of Gran Torino.
trueblueaddictor
I wonder why every lake you go to in MN, there are Hmong ppl finishing...like a ton of them...
What is up with Hmong ppl and fishing? My whole family fishes, I'm the only one who detests it.

A picture of my apartment building

A look outside the window

I don't have any professional looking pictures, but it's very crowded and very cluttered with buildings.
Ties
i think Chicago was the dirtiest, most run down looking city i've ever been to
lilasiankid
Those Asian downtowns look amazing. So clean with newer buildings than these old industrial age ones here.

Reminds me of that mirror's edge game embarassedlaugh.gif

Where I live isn't even considered downtown. Nearly all of Seoul looks like that. There are high rise apartment buildings everywhere.

How are you liking it there? When I was there, I hated it. Nothing to do, it was boring.

It's not too bad here, but I'd still prefer being back at home. I hear Japan is a lot funner, but we find lots of things to do here though. Just like any other city, we just go out and check out the attractions. I've been to the zoo, the amusement parks, korean palaces, hiking, bike trail along the han river and there's tons of shopping everywhere. I still haven't even checked out the beaches or the skiing yet. Oh and I forgot about the food. It's always fun to try out new food too. For single guys, there are lots of very beautiful women everywhere and of different nationalities too. There tons of clubs that goes until 6 in the morning and bars everywhere too. For single ladies....sorry the guys here don't look anything close to what they look like in the Korean dramas. A few do, but most looks really gay. How long were you here?

In total, I spent about a month there. Sadly, I know the harsh realities and difference of the Kdramas (not that I watch any), and the actual place. I think you'd have a much better time in Japan. What branch of service are you in? If you're airforce, try heading to Yokota air base, or Kadena air base in Japan. You guys get spoiled at those bases, but it's all fun. The Yokota base is either really small or I just haven't seen the whole place. I've flown out of there a few times on a MAC flight. If you're the married man, you'd have a ball in Japan. So much more to do than Korea, and the COLA and BAH isn't bad either icon_smile.gif. If you ever go to Japan, don't hesitate to ask me what's there. Spent 4 years there, I've seen from hokkaido all the down to fukuoka. Something you probably want to see for sure in Japan, is the A-bomb sites. In Hiroshima, take a trip to Miyajima, great stuff. I still got pics from that place when I toured through Japan.

LOL Airforce? No, I actually do real work, I'm in the Army. No offense if you're Airforce, but Airmen do get spoiled. Although sometimes I wish I was in the Airforce instead. Being in the Army there's slim to no chance of me ever coming down on orders for Japan. One of my soldiers just re-enlisted for Japan and loves it there. He's stationed on an Airforce base. He says Japan is like Korea on steroids. I always hear good things about Japan. To be honest with you, I had a lot of resentment towards Korea because of all the wannabe Koreans back at home. Once I got here, I tried making the best of it and it's actually not so bad now. I'd love to go to Japan though. Where were you in Korea when you were here?

Nah, I did real work too lol. I was US Navy Electricians Mate 2nd Class, stationed on USS Kitty Hawk 2004-2008 in Yokosuka, Japan. There are army bases in Japan, but they're really small lol. Camp Zama, and Camp Fuji are by tokyo. I was in Korea in 2005 and 2007. I never really liked it there, because there was a lot of douchebags, and nobody was friendly. I loved Japan though lol, I'd go back there in a heartbeat. People are nice, place is clean, public transportation is plentiful and efficient, food is great. The only thing I didn't like is the high prices of everything haha, but COLA and BAH made up for it.

So where were you at in Korea? Most the people here in Seoul to include the Koreans are really nice. The girls here looks like they'd be stuck up, but for the most part they're just shy. Ofcourse there are those out to rob soldiers of their money, but if you're dumb enough to fall for them, then you deserve it. I'm just making the best of being in another country, but I wouldn't say I'd want to come back here once I leave though. I do wish COLA was higher, but the BAH and utilities pay are both nice. I'd have to make atleast six figures yearly to afford the same type of apartment back state side.
Ties
what's cola?
i wish i woulda taken that test they make you take when you first consider the army
just to see where i coulda ended up biggrin.gif
don't you guys miss home?
Psycho John
COLA = Cost of Living Allowance. The military pays a little more if you're living in places where the cost of living is higher than in the US. For example, a military person I know in Japan right now is getting an extra $800 a month for on top of his other pay.

I miss home all the time, but you got to make the best of it. In a little over 4 years, I've deployed to Iraq twice and then was sent to Korea. This doesn't even include all the times you go out to the field for training. Which can last up to a month, sometimes more. You eventually learn to accept it or you get out.

I was in Busan. I never got to go to seoul, cause it was too far away lol. Out of all the places I've been to, I see Japan and Australia as a place I can say I wouldn't mind living at. Hong Kong was fun, but too touristy, malaysia is a downgrade from the states haha, singapore looks too small, but oh so clean, thailand...... I'm sure you already know lol. When I was in Japan I was getting 400 for COLA, and 2500 for BAH, and 400 AIP, on top of my regular pay. You can say I was living it pretty good hah. In busan, a lot of the girls were actually stuck up, most of them were just douchebags. It was hard asking for directions, and where things were at, everyone just looked at me disgruntled. I'll probably never go back there ever.
