Missing in the Philippine economic dynamics is its long term outlook. The use of short term solutions will not be enough (tapal dito, tapal doon approach). The Philippines should devise bold and extensive measures. This is not the time to be conservative. The Philippines should institute a series of economic development plans. The plans are charactererized by achieving defined goals at a given period.
Five year plans: The country should become a socialist for the first ten years
i Land reform
Social security reform (includes health, housing, and education)
Develop base industries to their high potential ( agriculture and fisheries)
Infrustructure (roads, train tracks, electricity, water, telecommunication lines, energy)
Create nationally owned corporations ran like a business with complete complacency. Unprofitable corporations
will be shut down. These corporations will dwelve in mining and oil exploration. Corrupt executives will face firing squad.
ii Low tech manufacturing
Entrepreneurship
iii Gradual privatization of national corporations
Medium to high tech manufacturing
Tourism
Entrepreneurship
iv Service industry
Science and technology
Military advancement
Entrepreneurship
So in 20 years we should be a member of G-9.
