Turkey Boycotts Chinese Goods

Baku – APA. Vice Chairman of the Turkish Customers Union Mustafa Dinc said they would call on the population to boycott the Chinese goods in a protest against the mass killing of Uighur Turks in China. Dinc said killing of hundreds Uighurs by the Chinese security forces in Xinjiang-Uighur autonomous region of China was unacceptable, APA reports quoting Anatolian news agency. “China relying upon its increasing economic force carries out the mass killings in front of the world’s eyes. No one can expect from us, 70 million population of Turkey, to be silent to the crimes against humanity”.

Dinc said customer’s consciousness was strengthened in Turkey and previous campaign of boycotting the French, Israeli and Danish goods were successful. “Now we are going to protest China. Our customers were oppressed by the cheap, poor-quality and health damaging Chinese goods. We will react to the massacre in China’s Uighur region with the large boycotting campaign because today wars in the world are waged in the economic fields. We will see what China will do after reducing of its sales in Turkey. We will encourage our local sectors faced with conquest by the Chinese goods. The customers will contribute to the local economy by buying the local goods”.

Dinc said they would call on the Turkic republics and Muslim countries to join the boycotting campaign this week.

What a childish gov.

Two actions China can take.

1) Recognize Turkish land as Greek land.
2) Chinese should boycott anything from turkey. Which is...?
HEHE777
3) Call turks to respect human right and give back their land to the Iran and respect it as the homeland of part of the former persian empire.
UnZipped
haha try if they want to, it will backfire.they'll be at the losing end.

ohhh nooooooooo icon_sad.gif

not turkey....they have the most amusing country name :/
SkyLegenD
Finally. China should take this opportunity to abolish all relations with that hypocritical and pathetic country.
UnZipped
oh pls add the repression of kurds to the list.
what really comes fr turkey that we chinese worldwide buy anyway???
sinraptor

Turkey's greatest exports.

Chinese_Soldier
You guys forgot the Armenians. Pretty much every country bordering that chicken hates it to hell.
ganning
Turkey has no stature, either moral or political, to talk. It has one of the worst histories of repression out of all countries in the world.

Plus, China does not lose anythign with this boycott. I bet Chinese wouldn't even notice.
orange peel
shiit... there's no way we can retaliate, there's nothing to boycott.

then we might as well cut off all relations with Turkey. Which I don't mind.
Titanium
The very same government that denies it's own historical demons in the Armenian Genocide is the knight in shining armor and soldier against oppression for the Uighurs. Ironic huh?
MiCC
if turkey wants to defend the uyghurs, they should receive all the uyghur men from china, we don't need those people.
metalhead
Yes, but the Turkic prime minister wouldn't know hypocrisy if it peed on his fez.
PeterKChan
They can boycott all they want. But, the Uygur lands and Uygur people is "CHINESE PROPERTY" at our disposal!!!!!!!!!!
Suijen
Makes me wonder if they would have been saying the same thing if they weren't ethnically related.
Xian
^ lol, of course not.

This is an almost irrational and infantile move.
PeterKChan
It's time for us to join forces with Armenians, Greeks and Kurds. Boycott them until they recognize the "Armenian Genocide." These Turks have been genociding people since the time of Huns. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what they were capable of doing.
BigBenChow
^ I will join your cause

They know perfectly well what they can and cannot do biggrin.gif

--MINISTER'S BOYCOTT NOT BACKED

Industry and Trade Minister Nihat Ergun called for a boycott of Chinese products. However, his adviser said shortly after Ergun's call that it was the minister's personal view and the government had not made such a decision. Ergun's boycott call came after violent incidents caused the deaths of many Uighur Turks. Ergun said, "If there was no respect for human rights, we have to show our stance towards the products of these countries."

The ministry's press adviser, Devlet Arik, going against state traditions, said, "It is Mr. Minister's personal view and that the government has not made such a decision."

everyone yells so much. empty threats, fake picture "proofs" , flawed "insight" from certain stupid writers, everything bull$hit. this is getting SO tiring.

turkey isn't anti china at all. There are a few jackasses in every part of the world but Turkey is the least of China's problems. The uighur leader is in America and that uighur federation is in Germany. Not even Turkey does that for its own ancestral people.

traditionally Turkey has been sensitive about not supporting uighur separatism. WUC would never be able to operate in Turkey.

this time they just couldn't keep the facts straight and a few individuals are mouthing off.

Turkish PM compares violence in China to genocide
10 minutes ago

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkey's prime minister on Friday compared ethnic violence in China's Xinjiang province to genocide, escalating criticism of Beijing following this week's killing of at least 156 people — including Turkic-speaking, Muslim Uighurs.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's strong words came amid daily demonstrations in Turkey protesting the clashes in Xinjiang's capital of Urumqi between Han Chinese and minority Uighurs, who share ethnic and cultural bonds to Turks. Hundreds of Turks prayed for the victims and set Chinese flags on fire on Friday in protests in Ankara and Istanbul.

"These incidents in China are as if they are genocide," said Erdogan. "We ask the Chinese government not to remain a spectator to these incidents. There is clearly a savagery here."

The Chinese government has already imposed curfews and flooded the streets of Urumqi with security forces to avoid a repeat of the running street battles earlier in the week.

Turkey itself is extremely sensitive to the use of the term "genocide." Armenia says 1.5 million Armenians were slain by Ottoman Turks around the time of World War I in what Armenians and several other nations recognize as the first genocide of the 20th century. Turkey vehemently rejects the allegation, saying that the death toll was inflated and that Armenians died in civil unrest as the Ottoman Empire collapsed.

Erdogan, the leader of the Islamic-rooted government, has been urged by some Uighurs and opposition parties to speak up for Uighurs as he did for Palestinians during Israel's offensive against Gaza militants earlier this year.

In late January, Erdogan stormed off a stage he shared with Israeli President Shimon Peres at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, after telling Peres, "You kill people."

Turkey says it is concerned about the Chinese treatment of Uighurs. Some Uighurs favor independence or greater autonomy for Xinjiang province, which takes up one-sixth of China's land mass and borders eight Central Asian countries. The Han — China's ethnic majority — have lately been flooding into Xinjiang as the region becomes more developed.

Erdogan, however, stressed that Turkey respects China's territorial integrity and has no intention of interfering with that country's internal affairs.

And despite the country's vocal criticism of Beijing, Turkey's Foreign Ministry on Friday reaffirmed Turkey's commitment to develop ties with China in every field.

"Turkey gives importance to the fact that all ethnic and national groups be living in peace and prosperity," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement. "We expect China to provide the necessary environment of peace and security for Uighurs who constitute a bridge of friendship between China and Turkey."

The violence in Urumqi began Sunday when Uighurs clashed with police while protesting the deaths of Uighur factory workers in a brawl in another part of the country. The crowd then scattered throughout Urumqi, attacking Han Chinese, burning cars and smashing windows. Riot police tried to restore order, and officials said 156 people were killed and more than 1,100 were injured.

Oh the Irony, this is the same government that to this day still denies that they ever participated in an Armenian Genocide. Even the most hardcore anti-China hatemonger have to admit this is pretty funny and ironic.

LOL is that supposed to cover up the ridiculous claims on genocide? does he know how many people, even inflated numbers, participated in the incident?? does he know there are 8 million Uighurs??? does he even know what "genocide" means?????

In a way, the current Turkish government is supporting Turanism. They are concerned about the Uighurs, an ethnic group thousands of miles away based on genetic/linguistic relations. You don't see China being too overly concerned about the Burmese or Northeast Indian tribes (Linguistically related peoples) today do you?

I hope Turkey realizes the vast majority of those killed are Han Chinese and not their 'brethren' Uigurs before screaming out loud the 'g' word.

from report, out of the 158 deads, 111 are han, so shouldnt it be the other way around. Chinese should ban turkish goods
TruthDoesntHurt
In the first place, I dont know why they should even care, or took it upon themselves to see themselves as spokespersons or representatives of Uighurs?? Considering that Uighurs are nothing like Turks from Turkey.
Judging from geographical location, I would say they should have closer kinship with Kurds, Armenians, and Greeks, all groups of which they now have problems and tension with.
So why should they look so far away and pretend that Uighurs are their brothers???

Secondly, I think they dont have accurate information. Their information must have come from Western sources, so they dont know anything, they think the ethnic violence is from Chinese Hans towards Uighurs, while actually it is the opposite and Uighurs have been massacring Chinese Hans and the Chinese security apparatus have been quickly suppressing any revenge waves.

This just shows again the power of Western media propaganda.

It's precisely because they don't have good relations with their close neighbors that they look far away for friends. Turkey knows that it's not particularly liked by the Europeans, who have blocked Turkey's bid for membership into the EU, nor Iran, which is a regional rival for leadership of the Islamic world. And of course, they have a dark history with the Armenians, and an at-times-strained relationship with Russia. With regards to the Central Asian, Turkic speaking states, Turkey is filling a niche, which appeared after the fall of the Soviet Union led to the independence of its former satellites. In the great game for influence in that resource rich region, Turkey is playing to its advantage, making use of historical, cultural, and linguistic ties. Recently, if I'm not mistaken, it has removed visa requirements for Central Asian states, forging them closer in an economic union. Speaking out for the Uyghurs is part of this general strategy.

In a multi-polar world, Turkey would likely be one of the poles. The heirs of the Ottomans are no stranger to empire. Though not without strong regional competitors (of which Iran is a significant one, followed by Russia and China), Turkey is a country to be watched, and not underestimated.
crabdonut
Just some frustrated Turkish politicians and the like. Turkey won't actually boycott unless they want to take an even bigger hit from the current economic situation.
PeterKChan
I once chatted online with Turk from Turkey. Of course, he brought up the Uygur ("East Turkestan") issue. In the end, he mentioned the Huns, Tu-Chueh and said someday Turkey will united the Central Asian states and invade both Russia and China like in old times. I don't know what kind of education they receive in Turkey, but to have enemies all over the world and think your kind is still the 'top boss' is utterly delusional.
orange peel
lol.. invade russia and china? not for another few centuries. and im pretty sure the Huns got wiped out already. and it's not even clear that the Huns are related with turks. these ethnic unity theories are just as shaky as a China, Japan, Korea alliance. lol
lifeliberty
the Turks are literally hated by every, single, neighbor, not to mention a large portion of their own Kurdish citizens

just look at their behavior online, and those of their claimed cousins in Urumqi and it's not hard to understand why.
UnZipped
haha china shud just support the kurds and the armenians...abt time china gets nasty

This is what Turkey does so don't worry about them. Remember when the Turkey leader stormed out of parliament against their ally Israel over the Hamas-israeli war? They do this because its their culture to speak out and the israelis were just as innocent as the chinese were so people just need to adapt to turkeys way of thinking
