Sandwich lead singer Raimund Marasigan denied assaulting an audience member in a men's magazine event held at the World Trade Center on July 9.

In a phone patch aired over GMA-7,Marasigan said he and the complainant, an Erick Encinares, only exchanged heated words and that "nobody got hurt."

Marasigan added that Encinares was rude to the band while they were performing.

In a separate interview, Encinares said that Marasigan lunged at him after their set.

Encinares claimed he was facing the stage when somebody bumped him from behind which caused his eyeglasses to fall. When he turned around to retrieve the glasses, Marasigan was there who then proceeded to "assault" him.

After Marasigan was restrained, Encinares said that Sandwich drummer Mike Dizon punched him in the chin. A TV report said Encinares was escorted out of the venue by bouncers.

The incident may have been provoked by Marasigan's dousing the audience with water while he was performing. Some of those who got wet, booed Marasigan.

An audience member even flashed a dirty finger at Marasigan who returned the same gesture.

Ironically, this took place while Sandwich was performing their biggest hit, "Sugod" (or "attack" in English).

ABS-CBN morning show, "Umagang Kay Ganda," reported that Encinares had filed charges with the police.

FHM magazine which staged the event, declined to comment on the matter.
