The U.S. and Japan has had a good relationship for many decades. But times change and so should the relationship. If the bases are there for Japan's benefit or for our mutual benefit, then let all U.S. soldiers go home and leave the equipment behind. Let the Japanese military take over the bases.

America is not doing any of this for Japan's benefit.

What possible benefit does America get for helping to defend Japan? Nothing really. Meanwhile, Japan loses its sovereignty. The American military hardly disciplines its soldiers that do these vile acts, like raping and murdering. They get set free after a light slap on the wrist. It's pathetic.

Japan can handle itself in its own defence. Japan is more than capable of it.

Get America out of Japan. Better yet, get them out of Asia.

I'm not so against US army, per se. Without the US pointing guns, who knows what would happen. Besides, I know plenty of people in the forces who are well educated, civilized, and disciplined. Hmm, how comes Japan is allowed to trial the us military personel whilst Philippines are'nt allowed to do such things when it is american military who does acts like preying and raping Filipina women??

i'm pretty sure the last case, with the girl who dropped charges, was tried by philippine courts. in fact the who fiasco when he was sentenced guilty by lower courts, when the embassy guards was wrestling him with philippine bailiffs to take him to filipino jail. he was also convicted to life in prison initially.

You do realize that on a per capita basis the US military crime rate is lower then the general population of japan.

Also it is important to note that the man who did the killing is a nigerian with nigerian citizenship. He has a US greencard, plus by US own rules US soldiers with US citizenship can only serve on over sea bases unless it is in a theatre of war. So by the US own rules this man should have never been in Japan.

Why should US. leave the equipment behind? That would be giving Japan US military intelligence and billions of dollars worth of equipment that could be used on other bases. The United States is in fiancial debt, so they cannot afford to just give it away to Japan.

Also, if the USA were to leave, Japan will be a defenseless country that will be vulnerable to attack from North Korea.
Remeber, Japan is not part of NATO and is not part of the British Commonwealth. Japan while developed economically, will be left to stand alone. AND without a standing army.

That is because the American education system in the lower income areas are pretty ghetto. And it is often the losers of society that end up joining up in the miltary. The educated ones more often than not become commissioned officers. The enlisted soliders don't need much education to join up. If they attach money to each child and let them choose where to go to school, perhaps like Belgium, the schools will be under pressure to peform better and educate their students better.

Japan isn't the center of the universe you know, nor is Japan the victim of some kind of oppression. You have the world's most powerful navy, and air force guarding your steps, while sharing some of the latest technologies openly.
