Some reason i don't see this being very stable in the long run :P (because it requires everyone to be happy with everything.)

never knew it existed to be honest lol

Hmmm.... do u wonder what it's like to be born in a family of polyamorous parents??? Seeing your mom with different daddies, or daddies with different moms... i dunno... maybe it's a reflection of the primate social gathering habits. Perhaps polyamorous families are akin to bonobos? Their kids will be pretty pacific peoples who are not full of rivalry amongst one another???

Don't know anything about that "bonobos" but in our shoes having polyamorous families would be socially unaccepted i would assume. life would kind of suck.

Tang,

In debate one has an objective. Then one develops the tactics that will accomplish that objective. In determining which tactics to use one looks at one's opponents and searches for their weaknesses. Finally one chooses the tactical weapons that will inflict the necessary damage to accomplish the objective. Debate can be civil or vicious. You use the tactics that work.

Ok obi wan kenobe... bowdown.gif

I think your vicious debate tactics always bordered on sexual harassments instead of robust and solid arguments.. but I am glad that you've abandoned that tactic now cuz it made u sound like a dysfunctional as.s.. ahahaa...

Tang,

The name is spelled "Obey Juan" not "Obi Wan." embarassedlaugh.gif

All the long time members realize I"m a charmless azzhole.

Sometimes the objective is not to engage in robust debate. Sometimes the objective is...

You think my tactics border on sexual harassment? You think I've abandoned those tactics? Young lady, I've simply stopped being mean to you. But for insolent opinionated newbs:

Tangy, you never said how you feel about it ... why?
What is your interest in such things?
Do you actually come from a polyamorous family?
One father and multiple mothers?

Hey, there is no shame being born into such a family.
As someone said, everyone has to be happy for it to work ...
guessing that means there is a lot of love in such families?

But, for mainstream America and Americans, monogamous relationships are the norm
Having one person love you and loving one person seems to be difficult enough to achieve.
And, the laws on the books prohibit such things as polygamy.
tangawizi
errrrr..... i don't have anything against people who are polygamous by creed, or polyamorous, or choose to remain celibate by choice..

and i have already asked what's it like to be a child in a polyamorous family.. that means i don't have such a family.. fail.gif

but u obviously come from one? daddy had concubines ya??

Second, you try to slight me with a slurr about my family

Imo evolution hardwired use of the nuclear family into our species. Such adaptations usually occur because they are useful survival mechanisms.

martin_nuke
90% of bird species are monogamous and scientists believed that monogamy prevented them to become extinct.

Polygamy is a stupid idea IMHO. The amount of women and men that are born into a population are supposed to be roughly equal, relationships and childbearing are important, private things for a couple to work out. I cannot imagine polygamy helping at all on a societal level, and therefore it is bad for the individual in the broad sense when you consider what kind of life the average individual will have.

I think it is better for people to maintain their own family and manage their own private property. That way everyone is a kind of an independent leader. I think that you'll find that the less advanced the civilization that you are looking at is, the further away they get from the husband & wife with private property model. I suppose this might be because the tribe leader(s) stifled progress which was allowed to evolve at quite a rapid pace in the "European civil society", for example (which are the furthermost extremes that I can think of).

Well because of all that, I see polygamy as a slide back towards the primitive. Even though many tribes would have had couples that stuck together, that just proves that a 2 person couple is natural. I can't imagine society being where it is today if all societies were always polygamous. It's not the only thing but I think it is a crucial thing as it has an effect on the dynamics of the people in the community.

And from an individual point of view, imagine growing up with multiple mothers & fathers. What would society be like in 200 years?

Actually, I think I've read it National Geo, but the bonobo myth (that they are 'peaceful' apes) is not really true. Plus it's not like the chimpanzees who are their closer cousins and which are violent aren't polygamous either. lol.

and the truth is in most polygamous relationships, the females lose. because in the animal world the females are going to end up taking care of the offspring, while daddy is over there fu-king his thing on the side. I'm a guy so hell i'm all for it. Lol. just dont' call me anymore when it says positive on the ept.

flipcombatmedic, did you know that in many polygamous relationships there are multiple males as well? And only one of them can really be boss I'd imagine, instead of every one of them being a boss in a normal setup. I am not sure if that is homosexual, I shudder to think about that but I don't think that it was. It was more that you are a little mini-clan, and your b!tch is also the clan leader's b!tch if you know what I am saying. But who knows? Who wants to know?

Is it a myth that bonobos are peaceful? I was sure David Attenborough said they resolved all problems through non-stop sex! confused.gif

I guess there has to be more to polyamory than just sex with different partners. There will be a dominant person in the grouping to keep it all ticking along just fine...

I can take insults. Not a problem.
Am pointing out your flaws, you say one thing and then do another.
But, go ahead, if it'll make you feel any better ... let it out eek.gif

Oh, there was no insinuating remarks ... at least I meant none.
Just curious about your background ...
But, guess, you really do not like polygamous arrangments?
Did your boyfriend ever cheat on you?
