I was browsing skyscrapercity forum yesterday, and saw that there is always at least one thread devoted to celebrating the Filipino Elite, the mestizo / chinese oligarchs who control most of the country's wealth. while looking at the history of these powerful dynasties, i noticed that they actually were quite influential in their former mother countries as well - that for example, Ayala, Soriano & others helped finance the Fascists in the Spanish civil war, or the Basque sugar barons of Negros trying to restore Basque national independence from Spain. Maybe somebody can also further enlighten me about the Filipino-Chinese stance during the Chinese Civil War.

Furthermore, from an opposite perspective, i read this book

Under Three Flags by Benedict Anderson about the connections of the Filipino Revolutionaries with all types of political and social movements during the late 19th century in Europe.

I just want you to step back, reflect on these facts of (relatively) recent history, of the rich people exploiting the Masa, about these rich Filipinos (well, the Ilustrados in the 19th century count as part of this group well). What about, on the other hand, People Power ? People remember Cory and EDSA I around the world.

Just to get you thinking.

Cory was one of the many forces in stopping the Cold War. As for the old elite oligarchs, they're there whose wealth is anchored on haciendas. Hopefully, CARPER will be their match.

about the cold war, the Filipino participation:

The Cold War waged in the Philippines

The Philippines in the Korean War

aquinos are communist sympathizers and had a good relationship with the chinese. Thats why the americans after helping her toppling Marcos, couldnt wait to ger rid of her just as quick. They (usa) already had a golden boy waiting in sidelines to take over, their beloved west point graduate, non other than the true american puppet fidel ramos.

AND YOU HAD THE NERVE TO SAY IT AT THIS TIME?! WHY CAN'T YOU WAIT UNTIL THE MOURNING STOPS. YOU ARE JUST A COMPLETE D*CK.

i'm not going the talk about Cory's politics right now.

Ramos is (weirdly) closer both to the American AND Chinese establishments and Interests than any other Filipino politician

It is strange, thinking of his personal history

Ramos is co-founder of this conference,

it's supposed to become the East Asian "Bilderberg Group"

this is a poster from WW2

notice that the Philippines is at the very front icon_wink.gif

This was what year? Jokingly, we could say the Phils is in the frontline cause it has the lowest military rank, like the way they place newbies in the frontlines of the Roman Legion.

1943 lol you might say that. i thought the same, maybe it could also mean "the first of the allies to be conquered by the Enemy", while all other countries of SEA weren't so independent yet and didn't count. New Zealand is the lowest in the picture, while the USA is the top and Haiti last. Bizarrely France is missing from the roll call of good guys. but i might be reading to much into this.

this is the Japanese propaganda LOL

a collection of movie posters from the pre-War & WW2 era, too bad theres no close up
