The Xbox 360 has been massively popular and greatly ahead of the PS3 in most of the world, but in Japan it's been a dismal failure.

It's also very unpopular among third-party Japanese game developers. Even though the market for the 360 is so large, only 3% of Konami's earnings so far this year have come from 360 games. Why are these companies willing to sacrifice such massive potential for profits and not develop for the 360?

Are the Japanese people really too prideful/nationalistic/bigoted to accept an American system?

i dont think so,if thats the case,why is ipod the best selling mp3 players in japan, while japan makes good mp3 players too

even the chinese 12 girls band or something like that i dont remember their name
the sales of their CDs playing traditional chinese instrumants was very good too

xbox mostly focus on producing shotting game, war games

japanese are more into rpg(final fntasy,
street fighter, tekken( action ?)
i dont play much games but from what i observed their preference in games are very different

I think it have something to do with the Xbox 360 poorly built products. On the other hand, the PS3, since it was released, hasn't had any REAL problem. Then again i'm just speculating. But as far as quality control goes, PS3 has the definite upper-hand over the 360. Anybody whoever own a Xbox 360 knows exactly what i'm talking about.

Because Sony has Japanese government support. However, financially, PS3 has been a massive failure for Sony. They lost hundreds of millions of dollars.

because xbox's are bulky and innefficient. The xbox has also had major recalls and problems (my friend's xbox's light turned red and stopped working)....even though the ps3 is more expensive, it has not had any problems and the quality is much better. Also, it plays blue-ray's which are more popular in japan since they created it.

Japan's engineering and technology and manufactured products is usually of better quality than US products. My PS2 and PS1 are still working as good as new. Japanese cars >> US cars.

mine too. They still sell ps2 games but they don't still sell xbox games. I think the ps2 was the best console ever created.

360 has the problem of crashing. "Ring of Death" they call it, and even in the new release version of the 360 I've heard that this bug is still not completely fixed.

Xbox360 sold well in America because the Americans thought they would get the best out of their bucks with xbox360. What they didn't know is their xbox360 won't last long than 6 months!

My PS3 is around 15 months old and it works like magic! Even my 4 years old slim PS2 still runs fine! You've got to love Japanese products. You get what you pay for!

Xbox 360 sold 30 million, so PS went from #1 best selling console to #3 console, that's pretty bad for Sony. Also Sony is taking a big hit selling PS3 for so cheap.
