In Total Human history, we can find only 2 vast sphere influences. The Western world and the Eastern world. Go further, that seems this world can be separated only 2 parts, East and West. I think only these two powers have never been stopping the huge competition over than 6000 years. In my opinion, the first head-on collision was shown by Swords with Chingiz Khan and Alexander

The second one could be called the Money and Culture War between those two worlds. And the battlefield looks like North and South America. And that, I guess, we are losing power this moment. As you guys know, America seems covered with Western culture. Of course its based on western things. But look up and down our children. What clothes they wear. How long time they need to spend for learning western languages. Specially, English. Do western children have to do same thing? I dont think so. Probably, all of our languages and letter systems will be disappeared soon.

I guess our cultural heritage would be an obstacle for our kids in future world. Because it will be too heavy for them learning to both heritages even though one of them will not be necessary longer for their whole life.

What do you think about this progress? Acceptable? Being Like African Americans will be cool? Or we still need some chances?

Sometimes, I know its definitely wasting my time, I have got some heavy a sense of shame when I have to read some E-mail filled with weird symbols a b c d e f g h I j k.they look like some sort of passwords to me.

wow that's a stretch. lol. you seem to think east and west are just one solid block of people.

and also why didn't you just talk about globalization instead of chopsticks and knives.

Thank you for your response.

you got the point what I need. so, If u don't mind tell me what do you think about this type of 'globalization'. Do you think others also believe this is the only way to go to 'Globalization'?

Knife-fork world VS. Chopstick world. what about our future? Do you feel comfortable?

I feel most comfortable eating with neither chopsticks nor knife-fork. My indian best fren's brother said that if chinese folks are more evolved than caucasians who still use crude weapons to eat (knife-fork)... but the indians are the most evolved... because they don't need any weapons to eat, just their bare hands... embarassedlaugh.gif

Sure. What a philosopher! I'm sure the next time I'll tell the physician not to use gloves when he examines me. That Indian guy is definitely 'more evolved'. He should get a Nobel Prize on Medicine and Sanitation.

I use a spoon, not knives and fork. Well, actually I use a fork for eating steak and stuffs like that cause it's just easy to stab it then pass it to your mouth. I speak English only though my family was from Germany.

Filipinos do not use utensils because they think its primitive.

the indians think the same too that it's primitive to eat with cutlery! beerchug.gif

They also claim they make the finest love in the world juz cuz they eat with their bare hands... icon_twisted.gif

Eat with your hand 101

http://www.marketmanila.com/archives/eat-w...-a-la-marketman

QUOTE
Next, before eating, WASH your hands well. Ideally, you shouldn’t have terribly long finger nails either. Eating with one’s hand can actually be MORE hygienic than eating with estero water washed stainless utensils or if the fork and spoon you use was handled by someone with dirty hands themselves.

A typical rich Filipino family enjoying fine dining eating food with their hands on banana leaves.

Did you know that you can't wash your hand well enough
to remove all of the bacteria from accidental incursions of feces to your hands?

Typhoid Mary was a cook who carried the disease in her intestinal tract.
Whenever she went to the bathroom, she would accidental innoculate her hands.
Common washing of the hands doesn't remove all the germs.
She infected all of the people for whom she worked as a cook.

But, please continue to eat with your hands ...
after all, you are what you eat????? embarassedlaugh.gif

Edit: Sorry, but those are the facts.
That is why we use utensils ... to be healthier.
But, still there is nothing wrong with finger food.
Should just be more aware to wash throughly before meals. biggthumpup.gif

it's weird if you just get out of the restroom and eat with your hand, even if you already sanitize both hands.

however, using hand for pizza and hamburger is okay, but rice?? thats disgusting.
UncleSouTh
yea a lot of Indian and village people of Indonesia eat with their hands and i have grown up in a society where that is not sanitary. but i have no complaints i just refuse to eat with my hands unless its "finger" food.

But i would like to state that forks and spoons are by far way more efficient that any chopsticks you can use. and i will argue that people and nation that use chopsticks use it traditionally than logically lol ^_^
tangawizi
i think if u eat nasi and curries with fingers all yr life, u won't ever eat it with anything else..but fingers!

same with noodles and chinese dishes, u won't ever eat chinese food with anything else ... but chopsticks!

so it is with steaks and chips, and the usual western dishes, u won't ever eat them with anything else ... but fork and knife!

there's nothing logical or illogical about it, don't be stupid...

I remember when I was in Narita Japan I would eat Sushi with my hand and the Japanese were staring at me like I have done something wrong.

Filipinos would find soup slurping like what the Chinese and Koreans do very disgusting and piggish.

Wrong again .. ole would be reporter/ journalist embarassedlaugh.gif

What you eat with all depends on where you are, who you are with and what is available to you
Steak and chips? If they were sliced to bite size servings and placed in the middle of the table
You just as easily eat them with chopsticks .. if that was all that was available or
you're eating with asian friends or family.
Noodles? Hey, often eat them with a fork.
Flat plate and chinese food is easier to eat with forks.

You make generalizations and they don't fit.
Especially in the western world, not all asians eat with chopsticks
And not all white people eat with just knives and forks.
This can be seen at Chinese restaurants in NYC ... just check out tea time .. dim sum.

In China, making chopsticks for utensils is easier and cheaper than making knives and forks.
Raw material, equipment and energy used ... think about it.
Still, there are some now who have discovered the abilities of forks

Edit: I would like to say that my meds made me say that
But, that just wouldn't be true beerchug.gif

i've try this experiment before. it's the chopsticks!

reason is simple, once you finish most of the rice, which utensil is easier to pick up the last few grain of rice? try doing that with a fork, it's impossible unless you're lucky the rich is sticky.

Knife and fork are easier to use for all kinds of foods. Chopsticks are best for Asian food.

BTW. If you lack a fork, two knives used carefully are just as good. When Camping, and there is a shortage of utensils, a knife and a stick of wood will suffice.

It would be an over-simplification to say there are just two spheres of influence. I would say there have been at least several different spheres of influence throughout history, all originating from the five original civilizations:

Mesopotamia spawned the Near-Eastern civilization.
Egypt spawned the African and Western civilizations.
The Indus Valley spawned the South Asian civilization.
China spawned the East Asian civilization.
And Mexico spawned the Native American civilization.

All of that applies to knives, forks, spoons and chopsticks too... how would you know where those eating utensils came from, what germs they have, or whose arse they've been in?

Personally, I find it more hygienic to eat with our hands... at least we know where they've been, and regularly wash and clean them more than any utensils. Sorry, but those are the facts... but to each their own, I guess.

Utensils were used to be healthier. Soon, they became a sign of being civilized.
But, by all means use your hands for eating food.

Eating rice with your hands is kind of gross imo... but hey, it's your body. You are responsible for what goes into it, so if you get sick because your hands weren't sanitized then that's on you. However, I'd trust utensils that were washed several times instead of a person's hands who have been god knows where. We're always touching things (doors, money, public computers, etc) that have also been handled by hundreds of other people each day. You don't know what kinds of bacteria they might have.
