I wonder why Hmongs from Laos don't use the drum for recreational use but instead, uses it exclusively for the funerals.

probably because our ancestors who fled China stopped using the drums as a recreational use since, it's heavy.
They put it away and only use it when a person die. The Hmong in China (Gho Xiong) stopped using the drums, but
somehow revived it again.

I think Hmong people just need to revive it. Probably, there are many types of drums.. The Hmong probably
kept the funeral drum and tossed other drums away during their migration. This is probably why we don't play drums as entertainment, since the drum we use today is solely a funeral drum.
