Well..... genetically Filipinos of the Philippines are Malays......and many would still be Muslims, if they had not been subjected to the King Phillip of Spain. They thought that it's the expediency of that time that allowed all these immoral attitude. Malays and Filipinos are just related. Most Filipinos did not descend from Malays, maybe partially through intermarriage in the past but most of the Filipino gene is a quite distinct from Malays from Malaysia
