What do you guys think about reverse affirmative action against east asians (i.e. koreans, chinese, and japanese) making it harder for us to get into good schools?

i absolutely think it's bull.
the bill hasn't pass yet, so i don't care. if it does, i'm the first to go against it.
the affirmative action was put out to help more colored students go to college!! and i strongly believe that we should be included. just because most of us do well in school doesn't mean that they should put a bill out to limit our chances of going to college. what are congress doing these days?!?!

I oppose affirmative action altogether. If anything, I think it makes minorities unmotivated to get into colleges on their own, because they have aa to fall back on and make it easier for them to get into prestigious schools. In fact, I was reading an article last week about black students getting into Harvard and struggling, because they weren't prepared for the academic rigor of an ivy league school. I never used it, and don't plan to anytime in the future. I take pride in my self reliance. I'd rather get into a decent CSU on my own terms than to get into a well known UC with the help of aa. Affirmative action has made other minorities like blacks and latinos become dependent on it, so they feel they NEED it to get into good schools. So... if it were up to me aa would be abolished altogether.

admission should be based on meritocracy, not race.

i agree with you guys that admission shouldn't be based on race, but as an asian, i feel reassured that i can actually go to college if the affirmative action is passed.

But you may not get into the school of your choice although you may be more qualified than others who are admitted (based on race).

that's why the reverse affirmative action is bull.
it can't just restrict certain races based on the %age of that race being admitted to college.
congress is stupid!!! haha

obviously, in these schools, they want to you be financially stable (a good family $$$) is +++ but it really depends on your academic performance in the end..
and this reverse affirmative action.. i don't know what this is... but i think asians pretty much accomplish whatever they want if they want to.. it depends on you, stop blaming other!

^ asians are awesome!!!
if you apply to small, liberal arts colleges where no asians exist...your chances of getting in it are better..lol
but, yes, at the end it really depends on your academic performance...so don't slack off!

I can't help it. It's embedded in my DNA.

Affirmative Action is still legal. How exactly its used today is what Im unsure of. But I recommend investigating your area and seeing if you can find anything worth reporting.
My school has an affirmative action service. I will be doing the same once college starts again.

affirmative action really does not help "minorities" as a group that much. Instead, it allows a submembers of a group to do well while repressing the people it sought to help. When I was at Stanford, most of the blacks were actually Caribbeans and Africans (rather than black Americans) and most of the Latinos were actually white Cubans and white/mixed Puerto Ricans. As for Asians, you sure as hell don't see much of other groups saved for Chinese (mostly Taiwanese), Japanese, and Koreans. I'm Vietnamese and my class of 1600+ had 23 Vietnamese students, 4 of them enrolled as international (came from Vietnam or Singapore). So that leaves only 19 Vietnamese Americans. AA was passed not to create a merit-based system, ala Napoleonic laws, but rather to provide an artificial perception of representation.

Every applicant to a UC/CS should be given a number & their names/race should not be seen when admission officers are making decisions.
