Hello there! I have come across a word in Indonesian (no idea if it is Bahasa or what). I actually think that it is Javanese, however I have no idea if it is Ngoko, Madya, Inggil, Suroboyoan, or whatever. There are 20 billion dialects in Indonesia it would seem!

Anyway, I have only heard the word spoken (never seen it written), it sounds like "ezweeka".... (maybe it is "esweka"? "essweka"? "ezweca"??... who knows).

Can anyone identify this word?

Thank you for your help and time!

fivers
according to google.co.id it seems "Esweka" is an Indonesian name

maybe there are some Indonesians on here who can confirm?
FourThirtyTwo
Yeah, that's kind of what I came up with as well. But I can't even verify that for sure.

There is also some kinda Indonesian construction company who uses that as their web address. They haven't answered my e-mail yet..

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this.

Peace,

/R

Good point. I guess that 'K' might be pronunced "ka" in Indonesia. But if this is a faux-acronym that we're dealing with, what is SWK ???

The only meaning I know is "Sarawak" but there must many more. Indonesians are often very lazy in the use of their language, they use selfmade abbrivations supposing everybody does understand.

If the abbreviation you mentioned is really swk, then by googling it one may result:
* SWK, short of "Sub-Wehrkreise" (military unit during Indonesian independence war)
* PT SWK, short of PT Sawindo Kencana
* Swk, short of Sarawak (supposedly not Indonesian, but Malaysian).

Sarawak is city in Malaysia

Hey, thanks for this info!

Can you please tell me what the PT part of that means? So may abbreviations in Indonesian... it's crazy.

I have also learned that Surabayan locals use SWK to refer to the Siwalankerto borough of the city.

All other leads and ideas are very much appreciated.

Thanks everyone.
FourThirtyTwo
Actually, it looks like PT just has to do with it being a company, or an incorporated business of some sort.
