Full Version: Did a Hyundai Dealership in Seoul discriminate against Chinese?
Asia Finest Discussion Forum > Asian Culture > Korean Chat

A sign written in Chinese, was stuck outside the door of the Hyundai dealership in Seoul, telling Chinese tourist people not to enter the show room, while allegedly, Europeans and Japanese were allowed in. This photo has hit another nerve in the Chinese netizensphere who are fuming mad, and they're calling out another round of boycotts against Korean products.

Hyundai vehemently denies that they have any policies against Chinese, and they deny that any of their dealers have such policies nor have put up such signs, neither in Seoul nor in China.

I have a few doubts about this because it doesn't make any sense.

1) Why would a car dealer put up such signs in Seoul? Do Chinese tourists visit Korea so that they can tour Hyundai dealers? LOL. Now that's one big admiration for a car company if that's true. LOL.

2) This isn't the first time Chinese internet users have made up fake stuff to bash and make other nationalities (that they hate the most) look bad, especially against Koreans.

3) Anyone can walk up to the dealer and stick a sign on the door, take a picture of it, then upload it onto the net, in matter of minutes.

4) Hyundai has done a rip roaring business in China the last year. I guess it was about time for some people in China to put a stop to it by starting yet another rumor.

5) Why the sign is only against "Chinese"? Why not Vietnamese, Filipinos, Pakistanis?

@ Joolee : What would reasons would Hyundai have against Chinese people? Doesn't China manufacture for Hyundai or no?
Pessoptimistic
I sincerely doubt that Hyundai dealership would ever put that kind of sign up.
Like Joolee said, anyone can just walk up, stick a sign up and take a picture.

That's the idea.

I doubt droves of Chinese tourists would be interested in a Hyundai dealership, at least not to the extent that they'll disrupt operations of that dealership. Besides, Hyundai denied the allegations.

netizens in general are always angry about something, its so childish.
Yer
You shouldn't believe anything on the internet, period.
Two years ago I'd read, "Koreans say they invented soy sauce," or "Koreans claim Confucius is Korean," and for a moment, I would wonder if it was true... embarassedlaugh.gif
Seriously, that $hite is ridiculous.

Yeah, I saw this from someone's blog other day.
I'm really upset about how Chinese netizens are wasting time on something that was ridiculously stupid and childish.

Believe me, I've been to Seoul and other parts of Korea before, you won't find exclusive Chinese writing signs anywhere, if there was any signs with Chinese writings then it's mostly a road/signal/direction/place and tourist info at airport and tourist locations. besides most of foreign writing signs are usually posted with other foreign writings as well.

This show how naive and childish Chinese person was when he took that Hyundai dealership entrance photo.
And it's unbelievable that average Chinese actually believes this.

Frankly it worries me about the emerging China supposedly ready to take over the world by vanquishing their bankrupt western enemies and paying them back for all their past humiliations that were inflicted on the Chinese. It worries me what kind of a world we will end up with when angry Chinese pay back the Koreans who supposedly humiliated them with a "no Chinese tourists allowed" sign at a Hyundai dealership in Seoul.

Don't worry that won't happen.
I know China's economy is emerging as No.2 economy in the world in next decade, but China won't become like Soviet/USA.

By China becomes No.2 economy and No.3 military power, they still have to deal with No.1/2 (US/Russia) as well as all other middle powers to vanquish western world.
And long as Mongolia, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Cambodia etc.. is surrounding China, China can not / will not vanquish the world.

China will need her neighbors to follow and be supportive of China's policies, so far none of China's neighbors want to be Pro-China.

Apparently, it is very important for him to know why and how "Chinese netizens" are dissing/hating Koreans.

Well, it wasn't true for sure, that's why it matters.

Already happened before.

The irony is a lot of Chinese don't blamed the problem source but blames the Koreans who bring this up.

That sounds plausible.

As far as I'm concerned netizens are people who essentially live 24/7 on the internet. Their entire life revolves around the internet, the type of people who live in their mother's basements and don't have jobs etc. Regular people who are part of internet blogs or forums are not neitzens. Netizens are constantly wired to the internet.
