I shink we should all just make a deal, from now onwards the term "Asian" should ONLY be used for people from the East Asia region (includes North and South East Asia).

Please, this is the most logical and the most suitable arrangement.

I shink for people from South Asia region, "Desi" is a good term, this is nice and good and is also used by Desi people themselves.

I want to make a claim and take on this term "Asian" because the East Asia region is the most populous region, so it deserve to claim it.

Are you imagining the Northern African Arabs? Or are you imagining the SubSaharan Black people?

I shink if we ask 10 people in the world, the majority, 8 or so, will picture a black African in their head, not a Arab.

I ask you "European", will you imagine a German / Caucasian person or will you imagine the Mongols in the Kalymk region in Southern Europe?

Similarly, even though South Asians and East Asians are both located geographically in Asia, Asia is a wery wide continent, and South Asians and East Asians are wery different from one another, and if there is anyone who can "claim" to use the name of the continent, it should obviously be the most populous group, the Eastern Asians. That is only logical and natural.

Everybody knows, even small kids will know, that they are in different groups. It's stupid to group them together, be it Asians or Mexicans, it's just stupidity.

Now I want to make a deal with all Indians here, please use "Desi" or some other terms and let us Eastern Asians claim "Asians" for ourselves, becaourse it is more clearer and logical this way.

And dont tell me about past practices, especially past practices by Westerners, they are ignorant and stupid people. Who cares about what they think, or what they used. Do you know in the past, they use things such as East Indies,West Indies, even Columbus and some stupid Europeans landed in America called the native people as Indians. So basically "Indians" is like a catch-all term for all brown skin people, this is their level of ignorance, so I dont want to hear arguments about what historical terms were used by Westerners, that is only propagating and continuing their stupidity.

Now please refrain from using "Asian" when referring to a Desi person, I know it will take time, but start small and after some time we will make a change, and everybody will be happy.

indians, pakistanis, bangladeshis etc. call themselves as desi or simply by their country of origin.

Asian is a term used for people from Asia. You can't claiml dibs on a word referring to people from a certain geographical location.

Only and ignorant person or a person with very little knowledge would not think of the North Africans as Africans. The first thing I actually imagined was a Berber person when you mentioned African. But I guess it has a little bit to do with knowledge.

In fact the word Asian was first used by the Europeans. If you want an exclusive term then you should consider using Oriental.

Fine !!! When the U.N. or any other organization is donating money to Asia then I hope those DESI will come out and say NO THANKS and claim that their countries are not ASIAN at all.

Your apology is accepted. But yes, why group the Southeast Asians and East Asians together? After all, when you ask non-Asians who do they think of when you say 'Asia', don't they think of the Chinese? Japanese? Koreans? Do they think of the Dayaks of Borneo? Do they think of the people living in Irian Jaya, Indonesia? (a community that bears more resemblance to the Papua New Guineans than your 'typical' Asian) In fact, do you think of that?

So why not just leave Asia to the East Asians?

What people think of when they think of "Asian" is different in different countries. In the UK for example Asian is most associated with South Asian wheras "oriental" is used for what Americans think of as "Asian" ("oriental" is not prejoritive there btw).

Irian Jaya is more like a non-asian area being governed by a asian country...why do you think they have been clamoring for independence so much

well SEAsians r East Asians...maybe your refering to North East Asians(C,J,K)

North East Asians originate from Mongolia, Northern China, etc and are northern mongoloid

South East Asians originate from Southern China and are southern mongoloid
