Dai (Tai Lue) from Sipsongpanna are very close to Tai Yuan people (North Thai) and especially Tai Yai people (Shan). However, there a lot of Tai Lue living in North Thailand as well especially in Nan province.

All of these mentioned Tai groups belonged to the same kingdom called Lanna. Capital was Chiang Mai (Jiang Mai). Jinghong (Jiang Hong) was a Tai Lue town in the north of Lanna where our Lanna king Mengrai had his roots. We used the same writing system, dance the peacock dance, have the same architecture, and the same taste in music and turbans. Our cultures are very alike, but there are some differences though.

Second, Sipsongpanna boarders Laos and Burma, Not Thailand. The Major River that runs through Sipsongpanna is called Lancang River. The Lancang River in Sipsongpanna runs into Nothern Laos and is called the Mekong when it enters SEA.

Sipsongpanna was apart of the Kingdom of Lanxang, the French label this region as occupied by the Lao when they entered the region. When i visited Nothern Laos, my relatives took me to sipsongpanna because its close to many Lao cities and easey to get to from Laos.
