i feel china has been pressurizing india with such things so that india will get excited and test a bomb and that will end the nuclear deal with america. although that has little value since india has the 2nd largest stockpile of thorium in the world which can be converted into uranium 233. if you were to use just a quarter of the reserves it would be more than enough to produce 1000s of nukes.

santhanam is just trying to create controversy because he wants to start testing nukes again. even if china were to attack india then america, israel, russia, all the european countries, will get a chance to supply india with nukes to bomb china.

if you can make a 20 kt nuke, you can make a 200 kt nuke. that is how americans made their bomb starting with a really small bomb and then drastically increase the yields. changing the yield does not change the technical details.

also 5 kt - 10 kt artillery nukes are more than enough to defend arunachal pradesh. in otherwords china would not get a land but a radioactive battle field.

the bombs that were exploded on hiroshima and nagasaki were around 15 - 20 kt

haha how would he accomplish that by saying the test he conducted failed rotflmao.gif

"India's status as a nuclear power has been described as a "myth" by the scientist who carried out its controversial hydrogen bomb tests in 1998.

He said the device had only "fizzled"."

because he would get a chance to start testing again? icon_neutral.gif

what exactly is the myth??

india has tested a 20 kt nuclear device successfully and has tested various other type of tactical nukes.

they did the nuke tests 5 times so that there was no doubt in the world

and finally they did test a thermonuclear device (which is the only test the scientist claims "fizzled")
the official yield of the thermonuclear device is a bit uncertain but it definitely was in the range.

a person can believe what he wants to believe that does not change the facts.

ehh, i dont think thats how it works. why would anyone go back to him after he says he failed? he cant be the only scientist there. i think its more likely they would go to someone else. from a business POV thats what would happen. perhaps science is different...although i still think he hurt his chances rather than make them better...

of course, a myth is not a myth. Myth is the core of history.
In anthropological sense, a myth does not equal to fiction as many think that what it means.

I think India is just hardening it's position a little so that it can extract more in the negotiations to sign CTBT.
